LETTER TO COMMUNITY

Dear United Way Supporters,

Wow! What can we say? Another record breaking year here at United Way and we couldn’t do it with-out you.

Th is time of year we get to look back and refl ect and we are so pleased of our accomplishments and what the future holds for United Way and the community.

Fall 2011 brought another record setting campaign. Th anks to all the corporate donors, employee solici-tors and individuals donors who put their trust into United Way year after year. Although we didn’t make our goal of $1.1 million we did surpass the 2010 campaign. Th is is truly a testament to the caring power of our community.

United Way invested $780,000 into 49 community programs that focus on the building blocks of a good life; education, income and health. Th anks to all our donor volunteers who spent hours reading and interviewing program representatives before making their recommendations. Th is process allows our donors to learn more about the quality programs in our community and keeps programs accountable for grant dollars. Six month and annual reports are reviewed by volunteers. In addition to raising money, United Way continues to focus on making real impact in our community. Th rough our initiatives and partnerships we made real change in people’s lives. Here’s how:

• Sixty-one (61) four year olds are attending pre-school county wide on a United Way scholarship. Sixty-nine (69) children receive transportation to and from pre-school on the Rainbow Route daily. Both the scholarship program and the Rainbow Route would not be possible without the support of the Hormel Foundation and AMCAT.

• Th ree hundred seventy six (376) children received a new or slightly used coat from the United Way Community Outerwear Drive. Children also received hats, mittens, snowpants, scarves and boots when available. Th anks to all our incredible donors for their support in keeping children warm.

• Over six hundred and seventy individuals (676 to be exact) formed teams and committed themselves to living a healthier lifestyle through the Get Fit and Be Fit Healthy Living challenges.

• We had a cold, but dry day for our 6th annual Day of Caring. One hundred twenty nine (129) volunteers helped their community members with projects such as window washing, brush removal, painting and general fi x up projects.

United Way Board of Directors embarked on a strategic planning process in November of 2011. Th is process included several community conversations and two board retreats. Th e plan is being fi nalized and United Way Board Members will start conversations with the community to gain feedback on the DRAFT plan before fi nalizing. A lot of work has gone into this plan and it is our hope that it refl ects the priorities of the community.

On behalf of the entire United Way Board of Directors thank you for your contribution and support. It allows us to advance the common good in our community.
