Team Member Profile: Sean Gordon

Age: 43

What is your job? I’m a mechanic. This year I will be working on the Ginetta G55, but previously I have been number two on the 2013 European Supercar Challenge McLaren and the #24 British GT McLaren. Before that I was the truck driver for the team.

How long have you worked at United Autosports? I have been at United since the start, but I also worked for Richard at JLR and Team LNT/Ginetta.

What would you be doing if you didn’t work for United Autosports? I really don’t know. I’d probably be truck driving or something like that.

What do you get up to outside work? I like messing about with bikes and walking my dog, Tia.

How did you get into racing? I was asked to be a truck driver for JLR and it went from there really.

What is your nickname and why? I used to be called Flash (before Gordon Shedden was!) and Al calls me Seamus but that’s about it.

What is it that makes you passionate about motor sport? I just like anything that is powered by an engine.

What has been your funniest racing experience so far? When Al unplugged the temporary podium (that was plugged into our generator) at Snetterton in the middle of a presentation because it was time for us to go home.

Breaking News

Another new challenge for United AutosportsWe have confirmed we will be entering the Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup in 2014.

The Ginetta GT4 Supercup is a new challenge for us, after already announcing our two-car entry into the British Touring Car Championship and our usual slot in the British GT Championship with the Audi R8 LMS ultra. We are hoping to create a GT ‘feeder team’ with the addition of the GT4 championship in 2014. We have also welcomed Max Gregory, the former Ginetta Championships manager, to the team to co-ordinate the GT feeder programme.

We will be running a Ginetta G55 for Luke Davenport from our base in Leeds. Luke is no stranger to Ginetta as he competed in the Ginetta GT5 Challenge, a support series to the British GT Championship, coming fourth in the championship in 2013, taking multiple podiums and a race win along the way. Luke will be taking a step up to the BTCC-supporting G55 category this year as he aims to progress his racing career. Luke completed a successful preliminary test with the team at Donington Park on the December 5th, completing around 75 laps in a 2013 specification car, before taking delivery of his new Ginetta G55 in early 2014.

The first round of the Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup Championship will be at Brands Hatch at the end of March.

United Autosports Historic Car Profile2006 Ferrari F430 Challenge

Owner Zak Brown made his North American Ferrari F430 Challenge debut at Fontana in 2007. He qualified on pole and led every lap to win the event. In 2008, Zak scored another dominant win with this car at Montreal’s Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. He seized the lead on the first lap and held off the field for victory.

In 2009, Zak had eight podiums, three poles and the fastest race lap in the Ferrari F430 Challenge and finished third in the championship. The Ferrari F430 Challenge was created for Ferrari customers to enjoy their cars in a structured, competitive environment. The racing is against other Ferrari owners on the most challenging racetracks in North America. The cars retain the same general look and 490bhp engine as the road-going version but a large number of significant track-orientated modifications are incorporated.

Out and About...Now we are nearing the start of the 2014 season, we will be heading out with our cars to do some testing at various tracks around the country. The two Toyotas, the Audi and the Ginetta G55 will go for shakedowns and test days in preparation for the start of the season. We will also be taking our historic cars out for test days as we work towards a busy 2014 calendar for those cars too.

Question:I want to become a racing driver, but my girlfriend doesn’t think it’s a good idea. How can I convince her it is?

Answer:Just buy her a handbag and she will soon come round to your way of thinking flower. If she doesn’t, she probably isn’t worth keeping!
