Please send information to P/Stf/C Robert Stein, AP, Editor: [email protected]District Commander 2019-2020 D/C Edward (Ted) Reiss, Jr, SN Marco Island [email protected]239-213-8722 Thank you for electing me as your District Commander. Thanks to all who guided me over the last few years in preparation for my new role. My hope is to continue making District 22 America ’s Boating Club the premier Club in the country. I pledge to do my best for you. One of my first goals is to see that members get information from the National Club, and when needed, to get concerns from our members to National. Another goal is to increase your reasons to aend District conferences. The first step in that direction is to have a relevant speaker at the Saturday lunch. Another is to have roundtable topics that interest you. We are an evolving organization. Incorporating the America’s Boating Club logo is slowly happening. Some changes are almost here i.e. the new Boat Handling Course and updating course names to beer describe the courses. Revisions of other courses’ content to reflect current technology and member’s interest is a bit slower. My belief is there will be many suggested changes to simplify the business aspect of our club. Stay tuned. Thinking of the future, the Governing Board meeting 8-16 September will be in Louisville, Kentucky. The D22 C&R will be in Punta Gorda at Fisherman’s Village from 2–4 October immediately followed by the Fall Conference also in Punta Gorda at the Convention Center on 4-5 October--so you can come via boat or car. So be safe, go boating and have fun.

THANK YOU to the D22 members that recently participated in our annual District cruise. The group totaled 85 of which 40 were our D22 members. This year’s adventure was something a bit different in that we sailed on Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas. The itinerary was Nassau, Bahamas, St Thomas and St Maarten. Most of these ports were familiar stops but the ship itself is a destination in its own right. From zip-lining, surfing, and rock climbing to fabulous shows, shopping, numerous musical venues or just
strolling through Central Park or Boardwalk, everyone had options galore to enjoy.
The group was given a Scavenger Hunt clue sheet prior to getting onboard that was designed to help guests get acclimated more quickly to the ship with its numerous neighborhoods and venues. The next afternoon, our group enjoyed an exclusive cocktail party where they mingled amongst one another while listening to the results of the Scavenger Hunt. The team of Andrea Battaglia, her daughter Nan, and granddaughters Brittany and Taylor won the prizes for having all the correct answers.
In case you didn’t know, this annual cruise has been done for several years now as a fundraiser for the District as well as Squadrons who participate. The check this year was for $2142.09 and was presented to the Treasurer during the April conference.
Don’t miss out on NEXT year’s cruise on the BRAND NEW Holland America ship, the beautiful Nieuw Statendam. The itinerary is Half Moon Cay, Bahamas; Grand Turk, Amber Cover, Dominican Republic; and Key West. Dates are 16-23 Feb 2020 immediately following the Annual Meeting. Please contact Lt Dawn Eckhart at: [email protected] or (727) 403-0406 to sign up today with either the current promotion or our great group pricing!
