To find out the major safety and security hassles in the factory.

To find out the deficiencies in the On Site Emergency Plan of the factory.

SAFETY AND SECURITY

A key aspect of work environment.Shared responsibility of both management and employee’s.Factories act also ensures that safety and security should be of prime importance.

FACTORIES ACT 1948

Fencing of machine. Work on or near machinery in motion. Employment of young persons on dangerous machines. Striking gear and devices for cutting off

power. Self acting machines. Casing of machinery. Lifting machines, chains, ropes and lifting

tackles.

Pressure plant. Floors, stairs and means of access. Pits, sumps, opening in floors etc. Excessive weights. Protection eyes. Precautions in case of fire. Safety and maintenance of building.

SECURITY POLICY AT UBL

UBL has a written and documented security policy.The security job is entrusted on contractual grounds to GROUP FOUR SECURITY SERVICES.The security agency provides security guards as per companies

requirement.

DUTIES OF SECURITY GUARDS

Entrance control. Periodic patrolling. Visitor’s registration. Incoming vehicle registration. Verifying employee’s identification. Inspection of cars, unidentified or

suspicious objects. To handle intruders or defenders.

SECURITY OPERATING PROCEDURE

TO PERSONNEL: On- duty register.Visitor’s register.Visitor pass.Verification by intercom.Knowledge of emergency rescue system, evacuation plan, first aid method, fire fighting, nearest fire station and

hospital phone number.

TO MATERIAL: Compulsory signature by HOD for

outgoing material.Delivery challan should be triplicate.Messenger/office boy should

handover their gate pass.Each good outward should be

entered in registers.Material inward register.

ON SITE EMERGENCY PLAN

Meant for dealing with emergency situation which has the potential to cause serious damage.

SAFETY RELATED: Carelessness with respect to PPE’s. Lack of cleanliness between the conveyer belts

and other areas of the plant. Dangerous lifting tackles. Open drains and manholes. Broken floors. Safety of contractual workers neglected the

most. Covering of steam pipes broken at many places.

the canteen.

TROLLEY BEING PULLED THROUGH THE BROKEN FLOOR IN THE PLANT

No trained person for first aid.None of the exits in the plant are free

from obstruction.No exit maps displayed in the plant.Workers are hesitant to freely come

up with their problems.The contractors and supervisors are

lenient towards safety discipline.No prompt action taken by

management in solving problems.

OPERATORS WITHOUT SAFETY GLASSES IN FRONT OF THE PASTURIZER, WHICH IS A HIGH RISK ZONE

Guards are missing from their place of deployment.

DRAWBACK IN THE OSEP

Lack of proper chain of commandUnawareness of the workers about

the OSEP.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Management must enforce wearing of safety gears among the work force.

Cleaning of broken glasses should be a done regularly and frequently. Lifting tackles should be immediately provided with a platform of sound construction.Proper chain of command in case of emergency.More awareness about chemical spillage. .

Separate funds should be allotted for improving the condition of the canteen.

Emergency numbers.Local language for communication.The security guards should be

enforced to stick to their duties.CCTV camera should be installed at

the entrance. Employees should be motivated.

Floor of the bottling hall should be plastered.

Open drains and manholes should be covered.

Status of fire extinguisher’s and sand and water bucket.

More frequent maintenance work. Rubber mats should be made

available.Sufficient number of breathing

apparatus should be made available.Prompt action.
