Speaker: Katy O'Malley Bunder
Topic: Non-Toxic Charities
In recent years, there has been a trend to label some
charities “toxic” implying that they discourage able-
bodied people from seeking employment and
becoming self-sufficient. Katy Bunder, Food Finders
CEO, will discuss the myths and realities of this
theory and offer advice on differentiating between a
toxic and non-toxic charity.

I have a great sense of gratitude for the response
from this group of people who give peace and song
in the face of hate and anger.
“Returning hate for hate only multiplies hate, adding
deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can
do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do
that.” Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.
“Each moment is a chance for us to make peace with
the world. To make peace possible for the world, and
to make happiness possible for the world.” Thick

I’ll be absent this Sunday because I’m attending
OWL (Our Whole Lives) training in Chicago. Have
you heard about our OWL program? Here’s some
more information:
OWL is a comprehensive sexual education program
that spans all ages. All facilitators are trained through
the UUA to provide interactive workshops and
lessons to engage participants. Some of the many
benefits include:
• providing honest and accurate information
• dismantling stereotypes and assumptions
• building self-acceptance and self-esteem
• fostering healthy relationships
• improving decision making
We are hoping to offer OWL to grades 10-12 in
spring of 2018 and grades 7-9 in spring of 2019. We
are currently in the process of looking for more
training opportunities for grades k-6 so that we may,
once again, offer the K-6 OWL program.
