The paper had a lot of squares on it so that the work that we drew would be easier to scale and to keep straight if we needed to. I then scanned my work into the computer using Adobe Photoshop so that I would be able to use it on Modeler and I put a blue tint to the drawing so that it would show up a lot more in the background of Modeler instead of it just being black and white. I also did this in Photoshop.

Unit 66 – 3D ModellingHA5 – Sidekick Task 6 – Production

Name Jamie Shepherd

Date:24/04/2014

First I drew out what I wanted the robot to look like with a design pack which was given by our tutor. I also did this in

Photoshop.

Then I loaded up Modeler and I loaded up the drawing into the background as a reference and as an exact scale for the model. I did this because if I was designing the model just by eye it would have been a lot harder to scale the details. I then created a sphere in the primitives tab and scaled it to how I wanted it to be, I used the primitives instead of designing it myself because if I did it myself it would have taken a lot longer to create.

Then I began adding detail to the sphere, I added the antennas onto it. I did this by going into a separate layer first and creating a disc, I then scaled it to how I wanted it to be and moved it into place on the robot but still in the different layer. Then I copy and pasted the disc into the layer with the sphere onto it. I then multi-shifted the disk to make the long part of the antenna and bevelled it at the top to give it a rounded top. However, then I needed to put it on the other parts of the robot so first I mirrored it onto the other part of the robot and then moved the other one onto the bottom and rotated it to attach it to the robot.

Then I had to create the eye for the robot. I did this in a similar way of how I created the base of the antenna. I created a disc on another layer so that it did not interfere with the rest of my model. Then I put it to scale and multi-shifted it inwards once and then outwards to give it a slight indent. And then I copy and pasted it onto the layer with the rest of my model.

Then I did exactly the same to create the speaker at the front of the robot. I created a disc on a different layer and put it in place, however I then created some small balls using primitives and used the cut tool to use the balls to cut a hole into the speakers to create the holes for the speakers.

I then needed to add colour to it. I added colour to it by putting the separate pieces into different layers and colouring it there. If I coloured it all in the same layer the entire thing would be mono coloured. I also used Adobe Photoshop to choose the colours and then put the hue into how I wanted the robot. I used a lot of grey and metallic colours to make it seem a lot more robotic. Then after that I rendered the work and loaded it up into Layout.

I then had to take pictures of the robot to show all the angles of it, I did this by selecting the camera in the bottom left and using the ‘T’ and ‘Y’ keys to select if I wanted to move the camera or rotate it.

I then added a chrome texture to the body of the robot to make it look a bit more luxurious and to also give it more character. Then I saved a version of all the pictures that I took in layout
