Unit 9 Evaluation
When doing the practice photos, I found that I enjoyed taking macro style pictures. Also www.nationalgeographic.com has some amazing macro photography galleries which jumped out at me. Using a macro lens sometimes and a normal one the rest of the time, I wanted to take some great pictures. I didn’t change any of the settings on the camera and I took all pf my images in colour. I edited my two favourite photos because I want them to be the main focuses of my exhibition. I edited the photos I like the most by making them black and white and then adding colour in specific areas using Photoshop. I didn’t know how to do this procedure until before editing these images but I have learnt this new skill.
Step1- Add a new layer to the image by dragging the background layer to the “Create a new layer” button. Then another layer will appear.
Step2- Add a mask to the new layer by dragging it to the “Add layer mask” button.
Step3- Desaturate the image by clicking Image>Adjustments>Desaturate. This will turn the picture black and white.
Step4- Add colour to the desired part of the picture by selecting the brush tool, making sure black is set as the primary colour and brushing the desired area.
This is the end product of this method.
I believe that the editing in my exhibition is my strong point because it makes the two pictures stand out more. However I think that the quality of my pictures is a drawback because I found that I needed to go and take more pictures as some of them were low quality. Overall I am happy with my pictures because the ones I have are good quality and nice to look at. In my opinion everything has turned out as I wanted. During my time doing my exhibition I have had the time and the opportunity to spend a lot of time taking pictures so I feel that I have improved my photography skills. For example, now I am a lot better at seeing potential pictures to take. If I were to do this project again, I think that I would spend more time taking pictures in order to get better images for my exhibition.
From my questionnaire, I have learned that the wasp picture was the most popular while people also liked the picture of the white flower. However picture 6 was the least popular as the people I asked thought it was quite plain.
