Matter

Matter is anything that has

mass and takes up space.

Everything has Matter or is

Matter. You are Matter. Books

are Matter. Even a

marshmallow is Matter.

There are 3 states of Matter.

Solid , liquid, and gas.

Page 3: Unit 6 and 7 Reflection

Atom

The smallest particle that

still behaves like the

original matter it came

from.

Page 4: Unit 6 and 7 Reflection

Molecule

Two or more atoms joined

together.

Element

Matter made up of

only one kind of

atom.

Change of State

A physical change that occurs

when matter changes from

one state to another, such as

from a liquid to a gas.

Physical Changes

A change in which the

form of a substance

changes but the

substance still has the

same chemical makeup.

Physical Properties

A property that involves a

substance by itself.

Page 9: Unit 6 and 7 Reflection

Chemical Properties

A property that involves

how a substance interacts

with other substances.

Chemical Changes

A reaction or change in a

substance, produced by

chemical means, that results

in a different substance.

Chemical Reactions

A chemical change.

Compound

A substance made of two or

more different elements.

Law of Conservation of Mass

The total mass of the

products that form in a

chemical reaction is equal

to the total mass of the

substances that react: No

matter how many pieces an

apple is cut into, the law of

conservation of mass says

that the mass is conserved.
