Human circulation and circulatory system

The human circulation process happens when the circulatory system transport nutrients and oxygen to all the cells and and collects the waste substances to expel them.

Page 6: Unit 5: Circulatory system

The circulatory system is made up of three components:

Blood Heart Blood vessels

Page 7: Unit 5: Circulatory system

• Blood. It collects oxygen from the alveoli and nutrients from the small intestine and transports them to all the cells. It also collects carbon dioxide and waste substances and takes them to the respiratory organs and the excretory system to be expelled.

Page 8: Unit 5: Circulatory system

• Heart. It is a hollow muscular organ that pumps blood all around the body.

Page 9: Unit 5: Circulatory system

• Blood vessels. They are tubes through which blood circulates. There are three types of blood vessels:• Arteries. They transport the blood from the heart to the rest of the

body.• Veins. They transport the blood from the body back to the heart.• Capillaries. They are very thin vessels which go to all the cells of the

body.

The blood

The blood is a red liquid made up of cells that float in a liquid called plasma.

Page 14: Unit 5: Circulatory system

• Blood cells. There are several types of cells:- Red blood cells. They carry oxygen and make the blood red.– White blood cells. They are

defense cells and remove bacteria and viruses from the body.

– Platelets. They form blood clots when a blood vessel breaks.

• Plasma. It is a liquid made up of dissolved water, salts and nutrients. It has also carbon dioxide and other waste substances
