Page 2: UNIT 4- Texture

When we touch an object, we obtain information about it. We can perceive if the object is… Rough Smooth Hard Soft Cold Etc.

Page 3: UNIT 4- Texture

When we see an object, we perceive its size, form, color, and texture.

These characteristics allow us to differentiate objects.

What difference can we observe in size, form, color and texture of the following objects?

Page 4: UNIT 4- Texture

Texture refers to the finish of an object’s surface.

Textures can be classified as… Natural

Artificial

Page 5: UNIT 4- Texture

Textures are not only perceived by touch, but also by sight.

There are two categories of texture: tactile and visual.

Page 6: UNIT 4- Texture

Tactile textures are generally those that occupy some sort of volume, or three dimensional space.

They depend on the material the object is made of.

Many artists often create tactile textures when they explore volumes.

Visual textures are textures that can only be perceived through sight not touch.

They are generally flat surfaces, like a canvas, that are given an effect to immitate another texture.

Page 8: UNIT 4- Texture

We can create visual textures by making any mark and repeating it over and over again on a surface.

Here are some examples of visual textures we can create.

Texture is quality that all objects have. This is why 3D works also have texture,

such as… Architecture Sculpture

Buildings can be constructed with a multitude of materials. Brick Stone

Steel Wood

Texture is an essential component of sculpture.

It is determined by the material and the finish applied by the sculptor.

Do you think the texture of the sculptures communicates anything?
