THE LOCOMOTOR SYSTEM
It is made up of the skeletal system and the muscular system.
The brain receives a stimulus, it creates a response, a muscle or glandular response, they are movements.
The skeletal system
The skeleton gives our body the shape and protect organs
It is made up of:
• Bones. They are hard and rigid organs.
• Joints. They are located where two or more bones meet.
• Cartilage. They are more flexible than bones. They protect the joints and they are sensitive structures, such as the ears.
The muscular system
The musculature is the set of muscles in the body. Tendons connect muscles to bones.
Muscles are made up of muscle cells that contract and relax.
When muscle cells contract, muscles shorten and move the bones.

Types of movements
• Voluntary movements. Our brain gives an order to our body to move. For example, walking.
• Involuntary movements. The brain doesn’t give the order. It comes from other place in our body.
– From the spinal cord. For example, when we remove the hand at shooting up.
– From the medulla. For example, when the diaphragm moves to breath.
