•  The  meaning  of  the  picture  is  a  person  falling  into  water.  •  It  isn’t  telling  as  such  but  it  is  just  showing  a  person  falling  in  water.  •  The  purpose  is  showing  the  percep1on  of  drowning.  •  The  composi1on  used  in  this  piece  is  fairly  basic  and  contrasts  as  the  background  is  

white  and  wire  is  black.  •  Gormley’s  work  has  inspired  me  and  has  given  me  some  ini1al  ideas  for  what  I  

want  to  do  for  my  wire  model.  

Prac1ce  analysis  Music  video  analysis  Delta  Heavy  –  Get  By  The  music  video  is  aimed  at  young  people  and  teenagers.  The  material  used  is  children’s  toys  and  games  and  tools  to  destroy  the  toys  and  games.  The  success  of  the  video  is  that  some  of  the  toys  have  a  stop  mo1on  technique  of  moving  the  objects  to  make  them  create  sound  waves,  which  are  synced  to  the  beat  of  the  music.      Django  Django  –  Default    The  video  shows  split  screen  of  the  band  performing  their  song,  techniques  used  in  the  video  are  black  and  white  for  an  old  effect,  a  material  that  is  used  is  duck  tape  and  a  technique  used  in  the  video  is  stop  mo1on.    

Prac1ce  analysis  •  Art  with  salt  •  The  video  art  with  salt  is  not  a  music  video  however  it  is  a  very  interes1ng  

and  ar1st  video,  it  uses  material  as  salt  and  a  card  to  create  a  detailed  picture  of  a  man  there  is  also  scary  but  ac1on  packed  music  playing  in  the  background  which  is  relevant  to  the  material  in  the  video.  

•     •  Pop  up  book  brought  to  life  •  The  video  ‘pop  up  book  brought  to  life’  is  also  not  a  music  video  but  shows  

a  pop  up  book  of  different  scenes  then  zooms  into  the  page  and  a  man  with  an  ac1on  is  shown  in  each  different  scenes,  techniques  and  material  used  in  this  video  is  projec1on  and  black  and  white  colours.

uses  various  materials  and  techniques  such  as  bright  vibrant  colours  and  a  simplis1c  designed  unique  video.

Evalua1on    What  3D  technique  and  materials  have  you  used?  

 •  I  have  used  shredded  paper  and  pva  glue  which  I  covered    a  plas1c  cup  in  to  create  

a  3d  effect.  •  I  used  plaster  over  my  wire  models  to  create  a  body  over  the  wire  frame.  •  The  technique  I  used  was  just  bending  and  twis1ng  the  wire  to  hold  it  into  

posi1on.  •  The  meaning  behind  my  wire  and  plaster  experiment  is  ‘sport’  as  the  model  is  

holding  a  tennis  racket  •  I  used  some  ideas  from  Anonthy  Gormley’s  pieces  of  work  for  my  wire  model.

Colour-­‐  The  paper  used  is  white  and  the  background  is  crème  and  brown,  the  shadow  colours  are  black.  Form-­‐    The  form  of  the  image  is  soE.  Line-­‐  The  majority  of  the  lines  in  the  picture  are  straight  and  cut  out.  Shape-­‐  The  shape  of  the  picture  is  a  2D  A4  sheet  of  paper  with  a  3d  bird  s1cking  out.  Space-­‐  The  space  of  the  picture  looks  as  if  it  is  jumping  into  the  space  above  the  piece  of  paper.  Texture-­‐  The  texture  is  smooth  from  the  paper  this  is  important  as  it  shows  the  shadows  beXer.  Tone-­‐  The  tone  of  the  image  is  soE  and  shows  shades  of  greys.  What  does  the  work  communicate?  The  work  communicates  freedom  and  escape.  Has  it  got  a  meaning-­‐  The  meaning  to  this  picture  is  life  and  reaching  out.  Does  it  serve  a  purpose-­‐  The  purpose  the  image  serves  is  a  bird  flying.  This  is  a  decora1ve  art  work  designed  to  make  us  ques1on  our  freedom.  Has  the  arKst  worked  from  memory  or  real  life?  The  ar1st  has  worked  from  memory  And  how  can  you  tell?  As  he  has  made  a  bird  out  of  paper  its  likely  he  was  looking  at  a  photogaph  of  a  bird,  a  bird  would  not  have  been  able  to  pose  to  him  for  that  long.

Plaster  Cast  

Felipe  Yung  Amongst  large  brushes  and  paint,  Felipe  Yung  cul1vates  roots,  reasons  in  organic  textures  in  a  singular  way  and  brings  to  paper  uniquely  shaped  images,  influenced  by  his  1reless  researches  on  Asian  culture.  His  history  begins  at  the  neighborhood  of  Vila  Mariana  in  São  Paulo,  and  it  reaches  as  far  as  Moscow.  Pain1ngs  and  spray-­‐paints,  which  transcend  trends  and  tell  the  history  of  Brazilian  Graffi1.  His  work  permeates  various  worlds.  Flip  works  through  the  peaceful  coexistence  of  certain  opposi1ons  such  as  figura1ve  and  abstract.  In  a  contemporary  gesture  he  conjugates  figura1ve  and  abstrac1on,  such  as  his  painted  trees  which  when  seen  up  close  are  no  longer  the  figure  of  a  tree  but  abstract  lines,  camouflage.  

Valerie  Hegarty    

•  In  the  pieces  viewed  here,  Hegarty  theatrically  reconstructs  ‘masterpieces’  based  on  works  by  Frederick  Church  and  Thomas  Moran  from  fragile  materials  such  as  foam-­‐core,  paper,  and  wood,  before  falsifying  their  ruina1on.  RoXed  and  baXered  nearly  beyond  recogni1on,  Niagara  Falls  literally  pours  from  the  wall  as  a  twisted  wreck;  while  Cracked  Canyon  is  broken  through  with  a  seismic  fissure  running  from  the  gallery  floor  to  ceiling.    

•  Through  Hegarty’s  eradica1ve  interven1on,  her  objects  gain  both  formal  and  narra1ve  authority.  Capitalising  on  her  highly  aXenuate  subversion  of  materials,  Hegarty’s  work  poses  as  artefacts  of  known  history  gone  awry,  envisioning  an  alterna1ve  world  order  of  smug  irony  and  poe1c  jus1ce.  

Jonny  Briggs  

Jonny  Briggs  was  born  in  1985  in  London.  A  lot  of  Briggs’  work  has  a  ‘spooky’  and  creepy  look,  effect  and  feel  to  them,  as  seen  in  pictures.    He  also  does  a  lot  of  ‘face  swapping’  work  which  is  simple  to  make  but  gives  an  extravagant    effect  and  can  change  just  a  normal  portrait  into  a  work  of  art.  

I  chose  Jonny  Briggs  to  research  as  he  has  used  nature  for  some  of  his  work  and  as  my  project  is  based  on  nature  I  linked  the  2  together.  

Analysis  

This  piece  of  work  I  created  focuses  on  nature  and  natural  life.  I  created  the  piece  out  of  clay,  a  book,  twigs  and  leafs.  I  covered  the  piece  in  leaves  and  twigs  to  allow  the  viewer  to  understand  the  true  meaning  of  the  nature  behind  the  work.  I  covered  the  leaves  in  pva  glue  to  prevent  them  from  looking  ‘dead’.  The  scale  of  this  project  was  clearly  a  lot  smaller  sized  than  a  normal  tree  but  I  have  used  certain  aspects  such  as  the  leaves,  as  branches  on  my  small  scaled  tree  for  a  realis1c  effect.  The  piece  is  well  balanced  and  appearance  wise  looks  balanced  due  to  the  book  being  the  base  holding  the  clay  stump  of  the  tree  in  place.  The  only  repeated  shapes  on  the  project  are  leaves  as  I  have  used  selec1ons  of  leaves  from  various  different  trees.      Over  all  the  piece  has  a  rough  texture  due  to  it  being  combined  with  natural  resources.  The  colours  used  are  all  also  nature  related  (shades  of  greens  and  browns).
