Arcade Games:

The first ever arcade game was made in 1971 by some students at Stanford university. This game is called Galaxy game, it was an coin operated game which means you require a coin to play the game. The best arcade games were Pac-man, Galaga, Donkey Kong, Star wars, Dig Drug, Asteroids, Defender Tron, Tempest, Centipede.

Arcade games are still being made and people still play them but they are completely different to how they were 30 years ago. Now they have better graphics and also instead of using a joystick etc… you use a key bored or an controller.

There are a lot of arcade games out now however there are not as many of arcade games as they were 40 years ago. During the arcade era there were games like packman, Galaga and donkey Kong and they were played buy a lot of people because there was not a lot of different type of consoles like there is today. During the 21st century there are better looking arcade games like Tekken, Mortal combat, Virtual fighter. But not a lot of people play these arcade games because there is a new generation of gaming and they are Xbox 360 and Xbox one and also PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 and they are just so much better in terms of technology.

Consoles:The very first consoles:

The very first console was called the Brown Box which was invented 1967 by Ralph H baer aka “The father of video games” However the brown box was only a prototype and it was not available to the public.

Magnavox Odyssey The Magnavox Odyssey was the first ever game console to be created and made available to the public . The demonstration of the brown box led to the licensing of the technology by Magnavox odyssey in 1972. The Magnavox did not produce any sound so it was the first silent home console and the graphics were considered great back then but now they are terrible compared to the current console

Consoles:When consoles were getting more popular:

22 years after the first release of the first games console, gaming became more popular with the release of the PlayStation in 1994 and the Nintendo 64 in 1996. When these game consoles were realised that is when gaming advanced in technology and became more famous than arcade games. The number of people who played video games increased, but not just in the U.K but all around the world.

When the first gaming console came out the graphics were very low quality and you could only move side to side, there was no sound as well that’s why it was called the silent console. However with the technology the gaming console have today it is outstanding what they can do. They produce sound unlike the very first gaming consoles. The graphics are just amazing, they look so realistic. With the graphics being amazing and the sound making you feel like you are there it just makes your gaming experience so much more real and better. One big difference is that now you can play online against over people from around the world at any time and you can talk to them. Another big difference is the controller it is so much more advanced than the joystick you would of used, also you can get controllers which are wireless.

PCPC:The first Desktop PC was launched in New York World’s fair in 1964 The Programme 101, was the first commercial desktop computer produced by the company called Olivetti and it was made by was launched at the 1964 New York World's Fair.

Software and Hardware:Hardware is the physical parts the computer is made of - for example keyboard, mouse, screen, tower, and the circuits inside it. Software is the computer programs; Software uses the hardware by taking input and changing it in to useful output.

Modern computers are very different from the very first computers. Modern computers are so much powerful than older computers which are able to do billions of calculations every second. Most people in the 21st century mostly have computers in their home or at work. Computers are useful for many different jobs and the computer can do more than 1 job at a time. E.g. Controlling traffic lights, vehicle computers, security systems and watch live TV Online.Anyone who has a computer can control it by using a mouse and a key board. However there are new ways to control a computer because there is new technology out. For example touch screen, voice commands. Computers are designed to do pretty much anything. Computers can be used to listen to music, reading the news, and writing.
