Chapter 1(Simplicity and Humility of Muhammad P.B.U.H)

Comprehension

What is meant by simplicity and humility?

Simplicity means to lead a simple life without any greed or lust for worldly pleasures and

comforts. It must be reflected in all the aspects of an individual’s lifestyle from clothing to

bedding, diet, and manners, etc. On the other hand, humility means to show a humble and

down-to-earth attitude towards other people. Humility also stands for modest behavior

neither too low nor too proud.

Describe in a few sentences, the lifestyle of Hazrat Muhammad (P.B.U.H)

in the light of the text that you have read.

Hazrat Muhammad (P.B.U.H) led a simple, humble life. He (P.B.U.H) used to do his work by

himself rather than asking other family members. He (P.B.U.H) used to share his

responsibilities with his companions. He (P.B.U.H) never liked to sit at the upper or special

place while He (P.B.U.H) liked to sit among his fellows at the same level.

He (P.B.U.H) used to wear a simple dress. He (P.B.U.H) always gives respect to others

irrespective of his caste, creed, or color. He (P.B.U.H) always eats a simple diet and sleeps on

a leather mattress made of date fiber. He (P.B.U.H) always showed respectful behavior

towards women. In totality, He (P.B.U.H) set an excellent example of simplicity and humility

and showed the perfect way to His followers how they can adopt them and live a simple,

genuine life.

How can simplicity and humility do away with the culture of

extravagance and waste?

By adopting simplicity and humility in our lives, we would be able to shun the lust from our

minds for spending our hard-earned money in buying unwanted luxurious items. We most

of the time like to buy worldly items to satisfy our sense of pride and superiority. In this way,

we waste our money to buy extra or expensive stuff. If we adopt simplicity and humility then

our social behavior would be considerate and genuine, our happiness would be original and

we would bow our heads in humility and affection.

Read the last paragraph of the lesson, “Simplicity and humility of Hazrat

Muhammad (P.B.U.H)” with comprehension and write down the main

idea and supporting details of the paragraph.

The main idea that we get after reading the last paragraph of the lesson “Simplicity and

Humility of Hazrat Muhammad (P.B.U.H)” is that we should follow the footsteps of our last

Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) to have a balanced and satisfying lifestyle. It is through adopting the

ways of simplicity and humility in our lives that we would be able to live our lives by the

teachings of Islam and Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H).

If we adopt simplicity and humility then we would be in a better position to reject the

worldly pleasures that we like to have just for the sake of pride and superiority. We would

be able to spend our money in charity rather than wasting it in buying foolish, luxurious

items of the world.

How did Hazrat Muhammad (P.B.U.H) treat his foster sister?

Hazrat Muhammad (P.B.U.H) used to stand up whenever His (P.B.U.H) foster sister paid a

visit to Him. He (P.B.U.H) also spread his sheet for her as He (P.B.U.H) used to do for the wet

nurse who reared him in infancy.

Q.A) Write a unified paragraph on the topic

sentence, ‘pride makes us artificial and humility

makes us real’ by using specific words, vivid verbs,

modifier, and adequate supporting details to

develop the main idea. Answer:

‘Pride makes us artificial and humility makes us real’ means that due to the feature of pride

in one’s personality, that person starts thinking himself superior to others. He starts making

artificial gestures and behaves superficially just to pose him at the upper level among his

companions or fellow beings.

On the other hand, if a person is humble or follows the path of humility then he does not

have to adopt artificial means to prove him a good human being. He represents himself as

he is without boasting about his personality or positives. In reality, pride can be treated

either in a positive way or in a negative. If a person feels pride in his achievements or

success then it is positive but when a person feels pride as being a rich man, well-educated

person, privileged human, etc and boasts them all considering others inferior to him then it

is the negative aspect of pride.

Q.B) Write a summary of the lesson, “Simplicity and Humility of Hazrat

Muhammad (P.B.U.H).

Answer:

Numerous personality traits were present in Hazrat Muhammad (P.B.U.H) which made him

the perfect person to be followed. Among all, simplicity and humility were the most

outstanding traits of the personality of Hazrat Muhammad (P.B.U.H). He (P.B.U.H) used to sit

at the level of his companions. He (P.B.U.H) treats both the affluent and the poor equally

without considering their caste, color, or creed.

He (P.B.U.H) used to eat a simple diet, wear a simple dress, and slept on a leather mattress.

He (P.B.U.H) owns nothing except a white riding mule, arms, and a piece of land that was

given to charity after his death. Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) used to do his work and also

took part in household chores. He (P.B.U.H) never considered himself at the upper level as

compared to His companions.

He (P.B.U.H) helped his companions on various occasions. Hazrat Muhammad (P.B.U.H)

always gave due respect to women. No one could match Hazrat Muhammad (P.B.U.H) more

than Hazrat Fatima (R.A) concerning character, speech, and mannerism. Hazrat Muhammad

(P.B.U.H) always led a simple life and we being the followers of Him must adopt simplicity

and humility in our life to shut the doors of greed, avarice, and lust.
