Selchie – a being that appears as a person on land and changes into a seal in water
Common in folklore from England, Ireland, and Scotland
As he dove into the waves, the selchie’s human form changed into a smooth, sleek seal.
Grief –Deep sadness
His grief was so great, he felt he would never smile or laugh again.
Slough – to cast off; to be
gotten rid of
Sara sloughed off her heavy coat
when she entered the warm, cozy
cottage.
