The outward sign of your inner self.

The combination of traits that make you the person you are.

Includes your habits, feelings and how you think and interact with others.

Many factors contribute to the make-up of who we are and who

we strive to be.

Our success in life is determined by our personality.

Our friends, family, and peers all respond and react to our

personality

There are many factors that dictate our personality.

These factors may include: Genetics

Environment Socio-economic status

Friends Family

Rearing

Genetics refers to the DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) within our cells that encodes for who

we are.

(1) Who would be more confident in their athletic skills? Someone who is 5 feet tall and weighs 105 lbs or someone who is 6 feet tall and

weighs 190 lbs. Why?

The environment that we live and are surrounded by also influences our personality. Compare the personalities of

northern individuals with southern individuals. Northern

individuals may be more prone to enjoy the opera or a Broadway

musical.

(2) What are some of the things that people in the south may like

to do?

Socio-economic status-all the financial aspects of your family and life including

housing, cars, clothes…anything that relates to income.

To simplify things, students who come from a wealthier family have more experiences

that may allow their personalities to develop differently from those who do not

have those same privileges.

(3) How do you think the personalities of students who come from wealthy families differ from those who come from poorer

families?

Friends? Yeah, friends.

Often times, individuals who have not become secure in

themselves, will try to mimic their friends or

those that they respect.

(4) Is this always a good thing? Why or why not?

Mi familia! No other force dictates our personality as much

as our family.

If your family sets a good example, the traits in your

family’s personalities may be beneficial for you to develop.

Rearing is in reference to the cultural norms and personality

traits that are instilled in you by your parents. This is probably the

most decisive ingredient in your development.

(5) Look at your personality and discover the traits that you and your parents

share. What are some of the positive traits?

Self reflection is the act of looking within yourself to

determine the things that you do and do

not like about yourself.

The use of a personality profile can help

us to reflect upon ourselves but also to help us to determine

careers that we may be successful in.

In order for a personality profile to work, you must be honest with yourself.

The personal skills that you learn in school will carry over into your

career. These skills may include: Working together for one goal

Working out differences Leadership abilities

Do you like roping goats? Be a goat roper.

Do you like to roller skate and 70’s music?

Be a disco roller skater.

The point is, you are more likely to be successful at your career if it

involves something that you enjoy.

(6) List two areas of interest that you have

Any individual can land a job. Only the individuals who possess strong personal skills will be promoted to positions of leadership.

WOW! So much information for such a small thing as your personality.

Hopefully, you see yourself in a whole new life.

Even career minded professionals have to re-evaluate their lives on a

regular basis.

And you thought ‘I am who I am.’
