Student Reports
Reports will be sent home on Wednesday of this week and we ask that you take some time to sit down and read through them with students. Providing feedback about progress and achievement is one of the most important aspects of learning. If your child’s report has the interview requested box ticked, this means that your classroom teacher would like to meet with you and we appreciate you making a time to do so. A ‘C’ grade indicates that a student is achieving within the range of what is expected for their year level with ‘A’ and ‘B’ grades indicating achievement above what is expected. A ‘D’ or ‘E’ grade explains that achievement is below what is expected for the year level. The general comment at the end of the report is a good indication of the general progress made and the social skills that have been developed this year.
Goodbye Julie
Julie Walkden, our Manager of Corporate Services, has accepted a position at the new primary school that will open in Rapids Landing next year. Julie will commence this position as of the start of next term to prepare for the opening of the school. We wish Julie every success for next year and beyond and thank her for her contribution to our school over the past 12 months.
Interschool Winter Carnival
There were some outstanding team performances at the winter interschool carnival last week and I was really pleased to be able to be at the soccer carnival with a team all day. I was so proud of the determination, skill level and sportsmanship displayed by our teams around all of the venues. Congratulations to every student who played an important role in each of the teams. You represented our school so well and we are very proud of you.
Happy Holidays
We would like to wish everybody a safe and enjoyable holiday and we look forward to hearing about your adventures when you return for next term. If you are travelling a long way, please take care by slowing down and ‘enjoying the ride’.

What’s on in June/July...
BANDS AT THE TAVERN
Congratulations to our fabulous school band members and their amazing band
coaches Graeme, Mike and Tony.
Last week they showcased their talents at Settlers Tavern to a very enthusiastic
crowd of family and community members. A huge thanks to hosts Karen and Rob
Gough and the Settlers Team, who once again showed their community spirit and
commitment by providing all band members with a meal, and generously
matching the money raised by crowd donations. The total raised was a very
impressive $1780, which will go towards our MRPS music program. Thanks also need to go to the following
families—Cavanagh, Bidwell, Dallimore and Parsons, who very kindly assisted with the transportation of all of
the music equipment to and from the tavern.
Last but definitely not least, a massive THANK YOU to Ms Helen for her enthusiasm and dedication to our school
music program. Well done to all involved.
Musica Viva—ZEEKO This week all students have the opportunity to participate in the Musica Viva incursion when the eclectic rock
band Zeeko visit our school. Students will need to have returned their permission notes and money to attend
their class session.

Last week our Kindy students were very excited to have a visit from local
police Constable Rachel Macy.
She spoke to the students about some of the things she does with her job and then took them out to
have a look inside the police wagon. It was a fun game seeing how many students could fit in the back,
it was a lot!!
Students then had the opportunity to try on the helmet and police shield, and a few lucky students got
to see what it was like to jump into the drivers seat. Constable Macy then got all students to line up at
the fence and recommended they block their ears as she turned on the sirens.
Great fun was had by all and we appreciate the local police taking time out to visit.

Beautiful Winter Edibles From the
Kitchen Garden
While many people think June is traditionally a time
to take it easy in the garden, MRPS Kitchen Garden
students have been very busy planting winter veggies
and harvesting some of their beetroot. These were
then incorporated into a delicious and nutritious
meal prepared in the kitchen.
Students loved the process of choosing the beetroot
that were ready, digging them out, cutting off their
tops and then brushing them clean. An apology goes
out to any parents of children involved in the
cleaning process – despite the Garden Specialist’s
best efforts, a fine mist of beetroot spray ended up
on several school shirts!

Another year – another Winter Carnival, where again our school teams, by and large, were able to dominate their opposition. AFL—Our team was undefeated and was only scored against once in the day. Hockey – Our team went through the carnival undefeated. Netball – Our 3 teams won the vast majority of their games. Soccer – Again our 3 teams won the great majority of their matches. Thanks to the various coaches for putting in the time with their teams leading up to the carnival. The teams’ collective successes reflects their efforts. Thanks also to the supporting staff made up of workplace experience students from the high school (Lachlan Russell and Naina Clark) as well as other high school students who volunteered their time and expertise to assist our sides and the carnival itself on the day with refereeing and umpiring. Thanks as well to the many parents who were able to come to Busselton last Friday to support our students.

Student Health and Wellbeing MRPS Code of Conduct incorporates six core values:
Cooperation, Empathy, Enthusiasm, Flexibility, Honesty and Respect
Social Management By having to overcome normal challenges for their age, and understanding that no one is perfect, your child will
learn how to bounce back, be more resourceful and thankful. By over-protecting your child and doing things
for them, you deny your child important opportunities for developing resilience:
Have the skills to make and keep friends.
Be able to sort out conflict and cooperate with friends and peers.
Be able to make decisions based on safety and respect for self and others.
Be able to ask for help when required.
Blaming fairly, using optimistic thinking, having courage and dealing with disagreements are skills that will help
your child to become more resilient.
Optimists look for the good things in themselves, others and what happens in their lives.
Thank you for playing a vital role in your child’s road safety education.

Honesty One of Margaret River Primary School Virtues is Honesty.
Honesty is being fair, just and truthful; not cheating or stealing.
Honesty means you don't say things about people that aren't true. You are not being honest if you make up
rumours about someone. An example of not being honest is when people spread rumours about others at
school or on social media.
Honesty includes not hiding the truth because that is deceiving, not breaking rules to gain an advantage
because that is cheating, and not taking something that isn't yours because that is stealing.
Remember that, “Honesty is the Best Policy”.
TERM 3 SWIMMING Annesley Aquatics is in the process of handing over the reins to one of our long term teachers Roberta Williams, who will be changing the name of the swim school to Aquatic Academy Margaret River.
Roberta has been teaching for over 11 years, having trained to teach Parent & Baby classes at Amblin, Busselton and also Independent classes in Margaret River. Many of you already know Roberta, who has taught a lot of our current swimmers from babies up to the present.
We don’t usually run classes during Term 3, but as many families have requested to continue lessons throughout the year, and swimming throughout winter can be a great immune and fitness booster, Roberta is keen to keep them running.
Term 2 will finish on Wednesday 21st, Thursday 22nd and Saturday 24th June respectively. Term 3 will recommence Wednesday 19th, Thursday 20th and Saturday 22nd of July for a 9 week term.
If you wish to enrol for Term 3, please call Roberta on 0429 651 450 a.s.a.p. to ensure a spot for your child.
As much as we will miss our lovely swimming families, after 20 years teaching as Annesley Aquatics, we are looking forward to retirement, a little travel and spending more time with the grandkids.
Wishing you all an enjoyable swimming future and a safe and healthy school holidays.
Bev and Fred Annesley
