Before a Crisis

• Anticipate the Crisis - Develop a Crisis Communications Plan o Identify beforehand who is responsible for speaking to media,

informing stakeholders and monitoring traditional and social media

o Drill and prepare persons for these roles frequently

• Have Pre-Developed Holding Statements at the Ready

o Prepare for various scenarios - easily accessible when needed –

easier to update with specifics during the crisis

o Decreases time lags and allows you to stay in control of the message

• Have Communications Channels to Help Assess the Situation

o Know before hand your official lines of communication – sources for

accurate information. The quicker you can learn what happened and

why the better

• Follow Up

circulating in the media/among stakeholders
