The objective of this project was to design a fire station in College Station, Texas that formed a connection to the existing community park next to the site. Knots in a rope inspired our primary design goal which was to create intermediate spaces, or nodes of interaction, which would connect the firemen to the community they serve. These spaces primarily occur in the glass box structure serving as a transition space from exterior to interior and under the photovoltaic covered canopy bridging the fire station and auditorium. Additional nodes include the extension of the park as a skate park and the perforated panels connecting the existing park with the auditorium.

This station was designed in an integrated studio in which we not only designed for function, appeal, and purpose, but designed for the systems that would aid in the buildings functionality and the structure of the building that would prove the building could indeed be built. In addition, we spent time designing an array of details from structural connection details to acoustical panel details. My primary role in this project was the design and development of the autoCAD drawings that were then edited on Illustrator by my partner.

ECSTACITYARCH 305, individual project

Programs: autodeskMAYA , autoCAD

This high rise argues there-creation of a city into anEcstacity, a city that gathers material from world cities and vanguard urbanist ideas to set off a design for lifestyles that are less and less predictable. In the Ecstacity, a person’s private life is no longer private because it’s forced to be. This helps guard against cities turning into areas of privatization and division.

My building acts as a masochist being hung by its latex-like skin and is being supported by four surrounding buildings which resemble a sadist. This use of existing buildings creates a broad context for my building because of its need to attach itself; therefore, helping transform a city into an Ecstacity.

the PIAZZA

Existing piazza and buildings Redesigned piazza and buildings

the PIAZZA

This project involved redesigning a piazza in the medieval Italian city of Castiglion Fiorentino. I chose to remodel the surrounding buildings while leaving them in their current location as well as preserving a small existing arcade. Because this arcade is the prominent feature in the piazza, I extended the arcade around the three remodeled buildings. This will serve as a walkway connecting the three multi-purpose buildings being used for shopping, living, and community classes as well as serving the purpose of framing the piazza without obstructing it. Additional gathering spaces are located on the intermediate floor where they are given access to natural light as well shelter from the floor above.

BAPTIST CHURCHARCH 206, individual project

The objective of this studio was to design a church in downtown Waterbury, where the surrounding buildings varied from old to new styles. I was given the freedom to choose a Baptist church in which the dramatic building form embraces the church and its people while the constant use of three reinstates the trinity. The placement of the windows serves to highlight the baptistery and procession of the church. Together, these reflect a building meant to contrast current down-town Waterbury.

Tools: woodshop saws

The goal of Phase I of this project was to design a structure with a core space of 4”x5“x10” and a proportional system of 1, 2, 4, 8 encompassing the action of interlocking and the compositional elements of plane, volume, and void. The model had to be able to be assembled and disassembled.

20

The objective of Phase II was to create technical drawings from Phase I and morph them according to an irregular grid then use the new shapes to inspire a design for an art gallery located on a cliff. I continued the action of interlocking through the connection of the museum to the site, the building levels occurring on the inside and out, and through the light which cuts and interlocks within the build-ing spaces.

SORORITY HOUSEARCH 205, individual projectARCH Design II

This project called for the design of a sorority house in College Station, TX with very specific program requirements. In addition, the house had to maintain a connection to the Greek style which I achieved through the columns and pediment, but I chose to use more modern materials.
