The Royal Agricultural University was established in 1845 as the first agricultural institution in the English speaking world. It continues to be at the forefront of teaching and research in the land-based sector, and remains a popular choice amongst students wanting to study undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in agriculture, food, business, equine, land management and real estate.

The RAU farms, Coates Manor Farm and Harnhill Manor Farm, offer very different farming systems. The mix of enterprises across our farms consist of cattle, sheep, outdoor organic pigs, horses and arable, and students have access to dairy farms. The farms are also a focus for research; field and plot trials are undertaken by the RAU and other organisations on an on-going basis.
Harnhill Manor FarmHarnhill Manor Farm is an example of an integrated livestock and cropping system. It has a 120-sow outdoor organic pig herd, and mule and highlander ewe breeding flocks are kept under a conventional farming system, together with a beef production enterprise.
Coates Manor FarmCoates Manor Farm is predominantly arable cropped, with some pasture land supporting the equine activity. We currently grow feed and milling wheat, oilseed rape and spring malting barley.
Fossehill FarmFossehill Farm provides polo and hunter livery stabling and associated exercise facilities. Converted by the RAU in 2006, it features an all-weather exercise track and outdoor arena.
Kemble Farms LtdKemble Farms Ltd, a large dairy complex, allow our students access to observe their commercial management of a high-yielding, 900-cow, all-year-round calving dairy unit.

Looking for a highly rewarding job managing land, property, and business in the countryside? These top-up courses have been developed to enable students with prior qualifications at foundation degree or HND level to top up to a BSc Honours award in one further year of full-time study.
BSc (Hons) top-up degrees
We offer a practical One Year Farming course designed to equip the prospective landowner, farmer or manager with the basic knowledge required for running contemporary farm enterprises.
This tailor-made, skills-based course covers all key aspects of modern farming practices, including crop science and animal husbandry, farm mechanisation, administration, and an introduction to farm and estate management. It aims to expand your understanding of some of the current challenges facing the agricultural industry, and hone your practical skills at the University’s Rural Innovation Centre.
