the focus of this design was jointing, the lamp is madefrom poplar for the shade and cherry for the base. itwas intentional that no metal fasteners were used, asi thought it would have taken away from the essenceof the joints that make the lamp what it is.

WOODEN BOATgroup project to assemble a wooden boat from existing constructiondocuments. my main role was to cut to scale the ribs of the boat andsand them. the boat was held together mainly using glue and woodendowels. the boat was completed in about 4 weeks and tested in theriver.

the movie has two worlds, a real world and simulated/virtual world, the latter called ‘the matrix.’ it is a design createdby someone who felt they were responding to a problem. so the movie is not only a representation of reality, butalso a representation of a representation, which i find quite interesting. design is the essence of what architecture is,to create from the mind. neo, one of the main characters, had to learn how to free his mind in order to fulfill the prophecy of being ‘the one.’

the challenge for this project was to take an existing film, analyze it, write a short paper and create a collage torepresent how the film relates to architecture. i chose to show the aspect of the film that was aesthetically pleasingand pushed the boundaries of what was normative in film, with the use of technology. it is with this same notion architects and designers use computers, different softwares and machines as extension of our minds to createwhat we envision for a particular project.

HVAC CASE STUDYthe aim of this project was to calculate efficiency of the HVACsystem of an existing building. this was a group project, the roleswere rotated between members so that each person could havean understanding of the different aspects of the project. my mainrole however was to coordinate the graphics.

conceptual library project

this design was based on havingtwo separate structure that cometogether at a central point to celebrate a special moment.

this moment, is that part of thelibrary that holds archived materials and/or prized books.

the idea was to have aspace frame structure, thatwould conform to the fluidmovement of what the building demanded.

bascule bridge dwellingreinterpreting a bascule bridge operator’sdwelling, based on the notion of a machine.

the dwelling rotates while beinglifted and is locked in place at theends when it is at its final point. it goes back to its normal positionwhenever the bridge is again closed.

the idea was to have the operator’s dwellingcontrolled by the movement of the bridge. inother words, his dwelling would rise as the bridgeis being opened, by a simple machine system.

this project was based on an conceptual urban situation. the scenario isthat in the year 2060, there will be a water level rise of 6 feet. this rise will cause most of the existing land to be inundated and some of the existingbuildings would have become inhabitable. the challenge was to have adesign that would deal with the problem.

the approach i took was to create a structure in the water, because i felt it was of vital importance to preserve the land that was left. so the solution is to hae a mixed use city in a building, out in the water.

mangroves protect coastal areas from erosion, storm surge (especially during hurricanes) and adapt themselves to overcome issues havingto do with frequent tidal inundation.

the skin of the proposed structure acts in this capacity in event that the water level shouldkeep rising. the building’s “root system” will beefficient at dissipating wave energy, which willprotect the outer facade and occupants of thestructure.

the “roots” then grow into the structural skin, which encompasses the building to provide thestability for this water city.

the context of the site creates contradictory notions.the hard built forms on teh west side of the river and the soft landscape on the east. the river act as theaxis for this dichotomy while seamlessly blending itall together.

it is with this idea that the built form was perceived.the capsulated “blob” form is teh mediator betweenthe two more platonic forms; heavy vs light, natural vsartificial, black vs white. and so a strong tention is created.

th form steps down from the side facing the bridgeto break down the massiveness of teh bridge. the structure is mostly covered on the south side andopened to the north facing the natural park. theproposed design seeks to show and balancethe opposed dynamism.

THE SITE WAS SMALL, SO THE INTENTIONWAS TO HAVE A STRUCTURE THAT WULDN’TGET LOST AMONG THE SURROUNDING BUILDINGS AND KEEP ITS UNIQUENESS ATTHE SAME TIME.

THE ORIENTAITON OF THE DESIGN WASBASED OFF AN AXIS THAT WOULD LINKTHE ADRIENNE ARSHT CENTER AND AN EXISTING MUSEUM, TWO OF TEH MOREPROMINENT BUILDINGS IN THE CONTEXT.IT ALSO TOOK ADVANTAGE OF SOUTHFLORIDA’S PREVAILING WINDS.

SINCE IT IS A MUSEUM OF ARCHITECTURE, I THOUGHT EXPOSING A LOT OF HOW THE BUILDING WORKS WAS CRUCIAL TO THE DESIGN. HENCE THE BUILDING EXHIBITSTRANSPARENCY.

PROFESSIONAL WORK

while working at a majorstructural engineering firmin the boca raton area,i took part in numerousdesign projects. my mainroles were to draw fromscratch engineer’s designs, correct redlines, make plotsets, coordinate drawingswith other firm partners etc.

here is an example of oneof the projects i helpeddraft.
