The Organization

• A Pune based organization, founded in 1990.

• Works for the specialized needs and rehabilitation of mentally challenged and cerebral palsy people.

• A platform for parents and care givers of mentally challenged persons and those afflicted by cerebral palsy to come together.

• To sensitize the society to meet their special needs.

• To provide world class infrastructure facilities for their complete care Prevention, early intervention, training, education, retraining, research and total habilitation.

• To help them become an acceptable and functional part of the society.

• To help parents emotionally & psychologically.

• To make available the best possible resources for their care and treatment.

Scale of Work and key Activities• Organizing periodical awareness meetings with parents-a knowledge and

experience sharing platform.

• Organizing programs and workshops for teachers and social workers Conducting medical camps at regular intervals to guide parents.

• Organizing an annual workshop that teaches them vocational and life skills to become relatively independent.

• Organizing state level conferences for like minded organizations, parents and care givers.

• Generating awareness in society about what mentally challenged people can do.

Scale of Work and key Activities• Holding drawing and poster competitions and exhibiting their creations (posters,

paintings and greeting cards) to boost to their self esteem.

• Running day care centers.

• Running workshops for those who are able to do some degree of productive activities. These workshops later give them financial independence.

• Publishing informative and insightful articles on concession for handicapped, special medical attention, care and treatment required etc, for parents of mentally challenged children.

Ethos of ‘Aravind Saurabh’

• A residential rehabilitation centre/ facility spread over 10 acres.

• Located near to famous 'Kanifnath' temple. Its about 20 kms from Pune on Pune-Saswad Road at the foothills of Sahayadri.

• The objective is to cater to the special needs of the afflicted and ensure that they continue to have a good quality of life when the parents grow older and can no longer look after them.

• Plans to house hundreds of special wards and operate on the concept of transfer of parentage.

• Medical care: Early intervention of disabilities to overcome the handicap as much as possible.

• Special education: Training, imparting life skills in a customized program designed to address special needs. Physical, spiritual and mental development.

• Vocational training to provide suitable work opportunities like packaging, carpentry, running a telephone booth, etc.

• No good work is a function of standalone entity. It is always a team work.

• Society needs to understand that mentally challenged people too can contribute qualitatively.
