Carp (K2)
• Ideal commercial carp margin float
• Dome top ideal for larger baits• Ideal for very shallow water & margin work
After the decline of river fishing in the pasttwo decades, commercial fisheries havecome to the fore as places where anglerscan go and, quite simply, catch plenty offish. Often overstuffed with small carp, early commercials caught the imaginationof the angling public and their popularityhas skyrocketed.
Since those early beginnings the fishinghas naturally evolved – the carp havebecome bigger and often wiser, and themethods needed to catch them have hadto change along with them. The pole hasbeen a crucial weapon in the armoury ofevery angler, and it too has changed andprogressed as the years have passed.Crude, simple tactics have been replacedwith refined float patterns and fishingtechniques, and Ultra has been at theforefront of that change.
The Commercial Carp Pole Float rangeincorporates a wide spectrum of designsin a variety of traditional and modernmaterials and manufacturing methods. From shaping float bodies in the finestbalsa wood, sourced from the other sideof the world, to incorporating space-agecarbon-fibre stems and plastic bristles,Ultra has the technology to create awinning pattern. Whether it’s a tiny dibberfor fishing just a few inches deep up to thefar-bank rushes, or a long, sensitive floatfor fishing today’s universal bait – pellets –at full depth at the bottom of a nearsideshelf, Ultra has the float you need toincrease your catches or help you winmatches.

• Ideal commercial carp pole float
• Very popular pattern forall-round usage with baits andconditions
This float was designed with onething in mind – fishing shallow. TheDolly has very broad shoulders, which make this float very buoyantand suited for work with big baitslike punched meat and largepellets. However, the addition ofthe rounded tip makes this buoyantfloat very sensitive.
The perfect shape of float forfishing all types of baits up in thewater – ideal for carp, chub androach. Great when fishing pellets, corn, casters, worms or pellets ofmeat in depths up to four feet, across to islands or in open wateron the long pole. The Pimp alsoworks well as a delicate marginfloat.
A classic dibber design, this is theperfect choice for those who arelooking for a float that will presentbig baits in the margins, whileremaining buoyant enough todistinguish between line bites andgenuine takes. Also perfect forfishing baits of all sizes up in thewater and against far-bank cover.
When fishing baits like big pelletsand paste up in the water at longrange you need a very buoyantfloat that is both strong and stable. The Fluoro No9 is an incrediblybuoyant, big-bodied hi-viz floatthat’s ideal for fishing all big baitson the long pole at range.
Another classic dibber, the No10will cope with big baits in themargins, but still retains a degreeof sensitivity. Also perfect forfishing baits of all sizes up in thewater and against far-bank cover.

Designed using the classicdiamond body shape this is anexceptionally stable pattern, evenin the windiest of conditions. It’sperfect for presenting baits likecorn, pellets, maggots and casters, either on or just off the bottom. TheUltra Tuff No1 performs best inwater up to six feet deep, but incalm conditions will comfortablyhandle depths of eight to 10 feet.
Incorporating the ultra-buoyant,body-down body creates theperfect float for presenting baitslike pellets, maggots, worms andmeat hard on the deck in windyconditions. The stability of thisbody greatly assists in the controlof bottom baits when fishing inawkward, swirling winds andstrong undertows.
The classic pear or rugby-ball-shaped body is perfect for allstillwater situations. In its smallersizes the Ultra Tuff No3 is perfectfor fishing to features like islandsand margins, and in the largersizes it is the perfect tool forfishing small baits on the drop tofull depth for all species of fish.
The teardrop, body-down shape ismost suited to fishing on or nearthe bottom with any type of bait. Aversatile float for all types of fish inslow-moving or stillwaters, this is asuperb and proven pattern forfishing chopped worms onmedium-depth stillwaters.
This classic, symmetrical bodyshape is highly desired by manymatch anglers because it can befished up in the water or on thedeck. Its design gives it greatsensitivity at the tip for registeringknocks and shy bites, making it theperfect tool for fishing small baitson the drop at full depth or up inthe water.

• It’s all about the margins! Ultra Tuff pole floats are designed with close-quarters work in mind but canalso be used for open-water situations with the utmost confidence.

These floats are aptly named – when fishing in themargins be prepared to fish right up against reeds andbankside cover, and be ready for a hooked fish to chargethrough them, taking your float and rig with it.
Ultra Tuff Rig Guide
The float and shot positioning on this controlled-droprig make it perfect for showing lift bites in deep water. After the bulk has settled the dropper shot will registeron-the-drop bites if a fish holds them up on the waydown. Perfect for baits such as pellets, corn, wormsand casters.
Ideal for very active swims this quick-setting, fast-drop,deep-water rig gets your bait down quickly pastsmaller fish in mid-water. The float is very stable andthe rig is virtually tangle-free – also known as thecrash rig, this is ideal for positive fishing when there isplenty of activity on the bottom.
Spread-bulk rigs such as this are for fishing on thedrop, as each shot can clearly be seen registering onthe sensitive float. Use for a very controlled dropanywhere from mid-water to full-depth, with light baitssuch as maggots, casters and pellets.
Perfect for fishing up against features such as reedsand margin vegetation, this quick-setting, anti-tanglebulk-shot rig can be used in mid-water or full depth.Simple and effective, the dome-topped float can easilyhold large, heavy baits such as meat, pellets, wormsand corn up in the water.
A very positive and popular mid-water rig with similarshotting to the Dolly, and the same benefits. Thedifference lies in the finer, highly sensitive tip of thefloat, making it suitable for calmer conditions whenpresenting baits like maggots, casters, worms, meat, corn and pellets.
This mid-water rig is more suited to choppy and windyconditions, where the single shot directly under thefloat stem anchors it down to show up bites that mightotherwise be missed. Use with pellets, corn and meat.
An instant-registration, quick-setting bulk-shot rig, ideal for calm conditions and mid-water fishing. Theclassic dibber-pattern float combines with a natural,on-the-drop presentation for use with pellets, corn andmeat.

Make A Splash
The ideal waggler connector for up-in-the-water or on-the-deck applications, the anti-slip inline float connector is fitted with a quick-change snap swivel enabling any angler tochange float or depth in seconds. The limp, flexible connection between float and linecauses a bolt effect, so the fish hookthemselves, especially when fishing hair rigs.
Pellet bands and applicatorsare a great way of attachinghook baits to your hook or hairrig. They enable you to putpellets on your rig with speedand ease. See our Accessoriespages for more information. Code:K3525
The Bagging Waggler is designed to keepa constant cloud of bait in the water tosend the fish into a feeding frenzy, but todo this you need to cast to the same spottime and time again. Fish are drawn to thesplash as the Bagging Waggler impacts thewater – it’s just like ringing the dinner bellfor the fish! On some venues this tactic willproduce fish from the very start of the session, but at most venues it can oftentake an hour or more to get the first bite.
Make a couple of casts to establish thedistance you want to fish, then clip yourline into the line clip on your reel ensureyou will be fishing the same spot everytime.
Most people make the mistake of mixingtheir groundbait too wet. The BaggingWaggler mix needs to be a fluffy but firmmix that can be squeezed onto the feederand cast the distance required, then breakaway from the feeder within 10 to 20seconds.
We recommend you use 6lb to 10lb mainline (depending on the venue and the sizeof fish in it) with the Bagging Waggler orthe Splasher. Hooklengths between 12inches and six feet are used, depending onthe depth of your swim.
The Bagging Waggler and the Splasher arebest fished with a hair rig when usingpellets, meat and corn, or a bayonet forboilies. Use hook sizes from 10 to 14,depending on the venue.(see our hooks page)

Quick-Change Artistry The Rule Of ThreeAlways use a silicone rubberfloat adaptor when wagglerfishing – it allows you tochange to a different sizedfloat or different coloured tipquickly and easily, withoutbreaking down your tackle.
When fishing a stick float, bolo orAvon, always use three siliconerubbers to attach it to the line. Thetop rubber can often break underthe strain of landing fish, and bysimply moving the ‘spare’, fishingcan continue uninterrupted.

River fishing today has changed somewhatover the years, although Billy Lane’soriginal patterns have influenced ourmodern designs and still form the basis ofwhat makes a good float pattern.
The running-line range covers all riverapplications; whether you’re fishing deep, sluggish rivers or shallow, fast-movingrivers our patterns will do the job withfinesse and control. Ultra has been makingfishing floats and tackle for 50 years andhas perfected manufacturing techniquesand processes that are unrivalled andenvied by other companies around theglobe. We our proud to remain 100 per centBritish and unmatched in our productquality.
There are six types of stick float and eightpatterns of waggler plus a Bolo and anAvon pattern to cover every running-waterrequirement.
The sticks are manufactured with alloy, cane and lignum stems. Designed forclose-control fishing at short to mediumrange – although the lignum sticks cast likea bullet – and in currents ranging from slowto medium fast. Use with a spread-outshotting pattern to tempt fish feedingthroughout the water column, or a bulk ofsmall shot to take the bait through nuisancesmall fish to the bigger specimens on ornear the bottom!
The peacock wagglers are ideal for fishingbeyond the range of the stick floats. Use astraight waggler in shallow, medium to fast-paced water, and an insert model fordeeper, slower flows. The clear plasticmodels are especially useful in clear waterwhere a normal float might spook the fish. Our quality peacock range and clearwagglers have a universal appeal and willhelp any angler to catch fish.

There will always be a place in tackle boxesfor floats made to traditional, effectivedesigns, and Ultra makes the best of them.Utilising modern manufacturing techniquesand materials such as clear plastic andtop-quality balsa, the Classic range coverswaggler fishing on rivers and stillwaters,Avon and chubber fishing for big fish onfaster-flowing water, plus specialist floatfishing techniques such as the onionand slider.
There is something in this range for everytype of fisherman, from matchman topleasure angler, specimen hunter tooccasional angler.
Although the materials may be modern, every float in the range draws on Ultra’sheritage in the float-making field – whenBilly Lane designed some of these floats hewas creating designs that would endure foras long as anglers went fishing. Like allUltra floats, the Classic range is entirelymade in the UK, so the quality isunsurpassed.
Hair rigs are the most effective way to present a bait tocatch carp, bream and tench. While they may look difficultto tie, in reality they are very easy and require littlepractice. The materials required to make a hair rig include thehooklength – either monofilament line or braid – a hook, aswivel and a sample of the bait that will be used on thehair. The bait is kept on the hair using a hair stop, whichcan be little more than a small piece of plastic.

The Hair Rig Pigtail Ring
The Sidewinder III bite indicator allowsyou to fish very sensitive tips because itis under no strain when casting out abomb or feeder; in action the indicator sitson top of your rod and you fish with therod pointing straight at your terminaltackle, not fishing at 90 degrees to it asyou normally would when fishing a feederrod.
By fishing direct to your terminal tackle, swims such as those restricted bysurrounding trees can be fished mucheasier, while striking is direct, quicker andmore effective.
The Sidewinder is slightly offset from therod, allowing the angler to read everymovement on the tip – pull round anddrop-back bites are easily seen by theamplified movement of the indicator. Withthis setup, neither wind nor wave actionwill affect the Sidewinder, meaning thatthis method can fish conditions that woulddefeat ordinary quivertip and feeder rods.
The Sidewinder rod was in developmentfor more than two years before it wasready to be released onto the market.Designed to combine strength, action andcontrol, this is a tool for anglers who arelooking for something different, and havewhat might be described as a ‘left-field’approach to angling.
Polaris floats combine the top presentation of legeringand feeder fishing with the supreme bite indication of floatfishing. Master this method and your catches will rocket.
The key to the success of Polarisis the Frixon device. Remember,it will work best when usingmono main line, not braid.
Join The CultUnderstanding how Polaris leger floats work and thebenefits they bring is an essential part of today’sspecialist angler’s armoury. These floats offer a newand different approach to mainstream fishingmethods and will overcome problems where othertackle falls short.

Polaris Rigs & Tips
• Over the years since its invention, the Polaris float system has gained a cult status among specialistanglers and has earned a deadly reputation with its unconventional approach to bait presentation.Polaris is certainly different from the rest!
Polaris Rigs & TipsSetting Up Polaris
i
• Tighten Line
To Set Float
Simply thread your reel line downthrough the unique Frixon device. The small hole takes lines from 3lbto 6lb; the large hole for lines up to20lb. Use mono, not braid.
Tie your feeder or bomb onto yourreel line as normal. Do not add anyshot to the line between the floatand the leger weight.
Wind the reel line through theFrixon device until you achieve thecorrect casting position. Cast thefinished rig as normal.
When the feeder or bomb hits thebottom keep the reel line slack andthe Polaris float will surface. Thentension the line to lock the float inplace.
The Polaris float should be fishedwith the rod pointing straight at itand not at an angle as inconventional legering techniques.
When you reel in, the Polaris floatwill be locked in place until itreaches the tip ring. Do not bealarmed! Continue winding and thefloat will be gently forced down theline until your next cast.

• Founded in the 1950s by the great match angler Billy Lane, England’s first-ever World Champion, Coventry-basedUltra has been making quality floats in innovative designs for over half a century. Such was Billy’s knowledge of floatfishing, and the design and manufacture of floats, that he published a book on the subject and many of his originaldesigns have provided the foundation for today’s modern float patterns. Back in Billy’s heyday, patterns such asZoomers, Missiles, Duckers, Trent Trotters and Onions were at the cutting edge of float design.
In 1972 Ultra began supplying high-quality floats to the angling trade as well as the angling public. The earlyprinciples laid down by Billy, of using highly effective float designs matched with the best-quality materials available, are still adhered to today. Since that time Ultra has been a family-run business, and is now under the guidance andmanagement of the second generation of the Stenton family. Thirty-odd years of trading success is no mean feat forany company, and over that time Ultra has grown to become possibly the largest float manufacturer based in the UK.
