Are we being deceived?
The Directors and President of AUV have been elected as representatives of the community to act for and on behalf of the Ukrainian Community in Victoria. Our responsibilities are to interpret what we believe Ukrainians in Victoria want; so we can grow and foster kinship amongst each other.
The Directors and the President have not been elected to foster our own personal beliefs, views or the views of Ukrainian organisation, associations or affiliations they are involved with.
The Board has to act in the best interest of the Ukrainian community in Victoria, to the absolute exclusion of our own personal views, beliefs and interests.

“Secret Plans moving the Ukrainian Community Centre, Essendon to the Ukrainian Catholic Church property in North Melbourne”.
The Newsletter stated:
“Members of the Community who I have spoken to, in the last few days, since this became
BREAKING NEWS, have categorically stated that this move by a select self-interest group within the
Community are wilfully and deliberately making this deleterious decision on behalf of the whole
Community without Consultation and total disregard for the broader community that WILL
disadvantage Regional Members across Victoria, other Religious Groups, interest groups, the New
Ukrainian Arrivals and the General Ukrainian Community.”
At the time:
” I called on the President to clarify the AUV’s intention to move the Ukrainian Community Centre to
the Ukrainian Catholic Church, North Melbourne property, as a matter of URGENCY.
We have received no such clarification or denial.
Promises Promises
It is very important to understand that reported in the Leader Community News (Hyperlinked – click
on the underlined text) dated 19 January 2016, the then Vice President of AUV, Stefan Romaniw stated:
“The building will be the first cab off the rank for the association’s plans to develop the area, with it also considering the future of the Ukrainian Hall, located next door to the
10 storey complex at 3-11 Russell St.”
“Russell Street would become to the Ukrainians, what Victoria Street is to the Vietnamese or Lonsdale Streets is to the Greeks”. “There’s great potential for it to be a Ukrainian hub”
At the time, during joint AUV Board and Building Committee discussions, …….. strongly outlining compelling reasons that the presence of the Ukrainian Community Centre for Victoria, should remain at Russell Street, Essendon. There was the unanimous consensus at the meeting.
President’s AGM 2016 - Statement
At the November 2016 AUV AGM, the President (previous administration) stated the Ukrainian Community Centre, Essendon relocation to the Ukrainian Catholic Church property in North Melbourne was an idea that was presented to the Board and was dismissed as it was never a firm proposal.
Alive and Well
Recently, I received “plans and proposal” detailing a proposed relocation of the Ukrainian Community Centre, Essendon to the Ukrainian Catholic Church property in North Melbourne.
Is this proposal still alive and well?
I find it absolutely strange that someone had devoted a great deal of time and effort and expended funds in preparing a detailed proposal including plans, photographs etc. Refer Attached Document
Have we been misled?
Sell Option - Valuation
I am led to believe there had been firm discussions at Board level to sell our Ukrainian Community Centre, 3 – 11 Russell Street, Essendon to a developer for $5+ million.
I am also led to believe that this proposal was almost accepted.
I understand a new valuation was commissioned which achieved $6+ million.
IT SHOULD BE UNDERSTOOD, VALUATIONS ARE SIMPLY A VALUATION OF THE CURRENT PROPERTY IN ITS CURRENT ENVIRONMENT
AND NOT IT’S COMMERCIAL POTENTIAL VALUE
The Commercial Potential Value can only be realised in an open Expression of Interest market. This process has to be totally at arm’s length with no one in AUV (or any Real Estate Agent) be
involved until final decision
Plan for the future
Before any consideration is made to sell our Ukrainian Community Centre, 3 – 11 Russell Street, Essendon a firm plan set in concrete MUST be put in place and endorsed by the Ukrainian Community in Victoria.
If a concrete plan is not put in place, I guarantee you that it will be a recipe for DISASTER.
Selling this property without a firm plan endorsed by the community will allow the proceeds to be squandered away.
No Community Consultation
Normally, one would have plans for the community’s future prior to considering the sale option. Alas, no plans have been presented or discussed in an open forum at the time. Yet the sale of our Community Centre has been seriously considered.
Or are the Secret Plans to move to the Catholic Church site are set in concrete without Community consultation.
Now they are talking about selling our icon. Are the Plans to move to the Catholic Church property site in North Melbourne still alive? See attached document as possible evidence that this proposal is Live and Well.

I will leave it up to the
Ukrainian Community in Victoria,
as to whether they are being misled and deceived
and by who.
If you believe as I do, the Ukrainian Community is being deceived, then don’t just standby and
