Carnivorous plants are strange and unique. They attract, capture and digestinsects for nutrition. Some examples of carnivorous plants are the pitcher plant,
sundew and venus fly-trap.The pitcher plant has leaves shaped like small pitchers. The insects are
attracted to the pitcher because of its aroma. When an insect slides down thehairs and attempts to climb out, it is blocked by the hair tips. Eventually, theinsect drowns in the liquid at the base of the pitcher and is digested.
The sundew is a small plant which looks like a tiny octopus. Its arms arelined with red hairs.The tip of each hair has a sweet, sticky drop of nectar. Once aninsect is trapped in it, the leaf slowly curls around its victim anddigests it.
Another carnivorous plant is the venus fly-trap. It is famous for its jaw-liketraps. The victim is attracted by its sweet odour. Once the victim touches thetrigger hair inside the trap, it will snap shut.
Carnivorous plants are unique indeed because they have odd ways of feeding.
