Step 1: inspect UnitBefore installation:A) Removeallshippingpackagingmaterial(blocks,pads,protectors,stretchwrap).B) Donotremovedoublehungsashretainerblocks(redclips)untilafterinstallation.C) Inspectunitforanydamageordefects.D) Verifythatthewindowunitisthecorrectsizeandconfiguration.E) Makesuretheunitoperatesproperly.F) ContactyournearestWindsordistributorifthereareanyproblems.

Step 2: Apply Jamb Extension Clips or Drywall ReturnA) Placea1⁄8"diameterbeadof100%neutralcure

sealantaroundtheinteriorperimeteroftheframeintherecessshown.(Fig.1)

B) Installthe3"jambextensionclipsaroundtheperimeteroftheframe,twooneachcorner,andthenspacedonapproximately18"intervalsalongtheframe.(Fig.2)Note:Fordrywallreturn,installlinealpieces.

C) Positionthejambextensionasshownagainsttheclipsandstapleorscrewthroughtheclipintothebacksideofthejambextension.(Fig.3)

Step 3: Prepare Rough OpeningA) Measureandverifythesizeoftheroughopening.Theroughopeningshouldbe½"larger

thantheframeinbothwidthandheight.B) Verifytheroughopeningisplumb,level,andsquare.(Fig.4)C) Takediagonalmeasurementstocheckforsquare.(Fig.4)D) Makesurethebottomsillareaoftheopeningdoesnotslopetowardtheinterior.E) Cuttheweather-resistantbarrier(WRB)ina“ModifiedI”patternshownbelow.(Fig.5)F) FoldbacktheWRBonthesidesandsilltowardtheinteriorandstapleintoplace.(Fig.6)G) Fromtheexterior,cutthetopoftheWRBasshowntoformaflap.(Fig.7)H) Temporarilytapethistopflapup.(Fig.7)

Step 4: Flashing the SillA) iMPORTANT! a.Useflashingthatis6"minimuminwidth. b.FlashingmustmeetASTM-Dperformancerequirements. c.Adhesiveormechanicallyfastenedflashingmaybeused.B) Measurethewidthoftheroughopening.Cutalengthofflashingthatis12"widerthantherough

opening.Thiswillallowyoutoruntheflashing6"upeachside.(Fig.8)C) Cut1½"slitsateachendoftheflashingasshownbelow.(Fig.8)D) Applysillflashingtotheroughopeningasshownbelow.(Fig.9)E) Ifyouareusingnon-adhesiveflashing: a.Stapleflashingintoplace. b.Sealcornernotchesusing100%neutralcuresiliconesealant.F) Flashingtapemustcovertheentiresillplate.Ifneeded,applyanadditionalflashingpieceoverthefirst

one(startfromtheexteriorandworktowardstheinterior).Maintainaminimum1"overlap.(Fig.10)

Step 5: Window installationA) Removeallpackagingmaterial(blocks,pads,protectors,stretchwrap). iMPORTANT! Onvinyldoublehungwindows,therearetworedsashretainerclipsattachedtothebottom

ofthetopsash,donotremovetheseclipsuntilafterinstallation.B) Inspectandverifythefollowing: a.Thewindowisthecorrectsizeandspecification. b.Theunitisfreefromanydamageordefects.C) ContactyournearestWindsordistributorifthereareanyproblemswithstepBabove.D) Applysealant: a.Applya¼"diameterbeadof100%neutralcuresiliconesealantalongthebacksideofthenailingflange. b. Beadmustruncontinuouslyaroundbothsidesandacrossthehead,inlinewithandcompletely coveringthenailingflangeholes.(Fig.11) c.Useadiscontinuousbeadatthesilltoallowforanydrainage.Alternateusinga6"longbead with1"gapsasshownbelow.(Fig.12)E) Setthewindowintotheroughopening.Centertheunitintheopening,makingsurethereareequal

gapsonbothsidesofthewindow.F) Temporarilytackthewindowintoplaceusing2"galvanizedroofingnailsthroughthepre-punched

holesononetopcornerofthenailingflange.Donotdrivethenailsinfully.

Step 5 (continued):G) Shimunderneaththewindowuntilsillislevel.Startwithashimateachcornernomorethan1"from

jambcorner.Addadditionalshimsspacedevenlyfromthecenterofunit,makesureshimsarespacednomorethan16"apart.Failuretoevenlysupportsillcanresultinimproperoperationandperformanceandwillvoidthewarranty.

H) Checktheunitforsquareusingdiagonalmeasurements.Shimwindowtoensuretheunitissquare.Multipleunitsmusthaveshimsundereachmull.Casementunitsover48"inheightmusthaveshimsplacedatthecentertopreventbowingofjambs.

I) FORDOUBLEHUNGUNITS:TOENSUREPROPERWINDOWOPERATIONANDPERFORMANCE,ITISVERYIMPORTANTTOSHIMTHEMIDDLEOFTHEUNITTOOBTAINEQUALFRAMEWIDTHSASSHOWN.

j) Nailallfourcornersinplacethroughthepre-punchedholesinthenailingflange.K) Makesurejambs,head,andsillsarestraight.Additionalshimmingmayberequired.Seebelowfor

minimumshimplacement.L) Finishnailingthewindowintoplacethroughthepre-punchedholesinthenailingflange,placingnails

within4"ofeachcornerandnomorethan8"-10"inbetween.

Step 6: Complete FlashingA) Cutandapplysideflashing.Sideflashingshouldrunfromthebottomofthesillflashingto8"above

theroughopening.(Fig.13)B) Ifnon-adhesiveflashingisused,makesureallstapleholesaresealedwithsilicone.C) Cutandapplyheadflashing.Theheadflashingshouldrunslightlypasttheedgeofthesideflashing

Step 7: Seal the ExteriorA) WARNiNg: Youmustmaintainaminimumof1/4”betweenthewindowframeandanytrim,sidingor

masonry.Failuretodosocancausebindingandwillforfeitallwarranties(writtenorimplied),WindsorWindows&Doorswillnotbeheldresponsibleforanyclaimsordamagesresultingfrombinding.

B) Afteryoucompletethesidingorwallexterior,applybackerrodand100%neutralcuresiliconesealant betweenthewindowframeandsidingmaterialonbothsidesandsill. a.Note:ThisstepisnotneededforwindowsthathaveanintegralJ-channel/Brickmouldframewithsiding thattucksbehindtheframe.ForwindowsthatuseaJ-channelasanadditiontotheframe,thebackerrod andsealantmustbeappliedasshownbelowbeforeyouapplytheJ-channeladdition.

outofsquare,over-shimmedorover-insulated.C) Removealllabelsorshippingmaterials.D) Paintorstainallinteriorwoodcomponents. •Painting:Applyprimertoun-primedwoodsurfacesthatwillbepainted.Twocoatsofagood

qualityinteriortrimenamellatexoroilbasedshouldbeappliedinaccordancetothepaintmanufacturer’sspecifications.

•Staining:Applystainaccordingtomanufacturer’srecommendations.Twocoatsofagoodqualityclearfinishcoatshouldbeappliedoveranystain.

E) iMPORTANT: Donotstainorpaintanyvinylcomponents.
