Connecting Global Competence

Waste Disposal in General

Basics

– Partner of MMG: Remondis

– Remondis handels waste containers

– Free of charge service during the show

– Fix prices for different waste categories

– Remondis issues invoice to MMG (purchase price)

– Exhibitors receive invoice for waste disposal from MMG (retail price)

– MMG bears costs for waste that remains inside the exhibition-halls after dismantling

Concept of waste disposal / Basic ideas

Motivating Exhibitors to declare waste

– Form 7.2 (service manual)

– Site inspectors

– Attractive conditions (due to new concept)

Page 7: UFI Operations Award 2010 - Messe Munchen

Connecting Global Competence

Former Concept / common containers

Use of common waste containers (without compaction)

– Positions

Page 8: UFI Operations Award 2010 - Messe Munchen

Connecting Global Competence

New Concept / working with compactors

Idea

– Replacement of regular containers by compactors (potential positions)

Mixed Waste

Plastic

Paper

New Concept / working with compactors

Idea

– Exemplary delivery yard

Connecting Global Competence

New Concept / working with compactors

Requirements

– Remondis: one-time invest of approx. 600.000€ in 50 reducers

– MMG: one-time invest of 40.000€ in electrical connections

– Yearly rent for reducers paid to Remondis by MMG: 104.000€

New Concept / working with compactors

Type: BERINGER reducer x5/520 (20m³)

Page 12: UFI Operations Award 2010 - Messe Munchen

Connecting Global Competence

Main Advantages

Transport Costs

– Waste gets compacted 5 times in the reducer resulting in less transports compared to the common 15/33m³-containers

Page 13: UFI Operations Award 2010 - Messe Munchen

Connecting Global Competence

Main Advantages

Transport Costs

– Average fill of a 15m³-container: 800 kg

– Average fill of a 20m³-reducer: 5500 kg

– approx. 1500 transports less for 15m³/33m³ containers, each transport is 94€

• 141.000€ savings p.a.

Page 14: UFI Operations Award 2010 - Messe Munchen

Connecting Global Competence

Main Advantages

Handling costs

– Waste in 1,5m³/2,5m³-containers gets dumped into reducers inside delivery yards

Page 15: UFI Operations Award 2010 - Messe Munchen

Connecting Global Competence

Main Advantages

Handling costs

– Reducers are delivered directly to a recycling plant, detour to waste-sorting plant isn‘t necessary any more

• Reduction of 46,40€ per ton, approx. 3750 tons p.a. in total, 2500 tons get compacted

• 116.000€ savings p.a.

Page 16: UFI Operations Award 2010 - Messe Munchen

Connecting Global Competence

Main Advantages

Turnover Ratio

– As 1,5m³/2,5m³-conatiners are emptied into the reducers inside the delivery yards, turnover of these containers is much faster (no detour to waste-sorting plant)

Page 17: UFI Operations Award 2010 - Messe Munchen

Connecting Global Competence

Main Advantages

Other Effects

– Less transports lead to a positive effect on environment and to less traffic on the fair ground

– More space inside the delivery yards during set-up and dismantling

– Long term view: better conditions for exhibitors, therefore better acceptance
