More than 80 keen Volkswagen GroupSouth Africa (VWSA) motorcyclists, in-
cluding their friends and families, rallied to-gether at the weekend in aid of furry four-leg-ged animals being cared for by the UitenhageSPCA.
The bikers gathered at the company’sAutoPavilion on Saturday for the SPCA’sAnimal Run – an initiative to raise funds and
collect pet food for the SPCA Uitenhage ken-nels.
After seeing the Animal Run advertised, three VWSA employees approached the SPCAto offer assistance. They also encouraged fel-low VWSA employees and company suppliersto support the cause.
James Rishworth, Angela Sandells andCraig Kennedy together with the VW Commu-nity Trust asked VWSA employees for dona-
tions of cash, pet food and blankets. They alsorallied other VWSA bikers and their familiesto join in the procession from the AutoPavil-ion to the Uitenhage SPCA at Kruisriver, where the generous donations were handedover.
“We were overwhelmed with the supportfrom our colleagues. We managed to raise atotal of R3 600 and over 280kg of pet food,” saidJames Rishworth of VWSA Final Assembly.
Christelle Erasmus (vice-chairperson ofUitenhage SPCA management board) was ec-static at the response to the call for donations.
“Huge thanks must go to VWSA’s employ-ees for their support of this initiative – it wastruly awesome.
“I was amazed at the number of bikes thatarrived in support and the donations we re-ceived.
“You guys ‘Ama’rock’,” she said.

Despite the trials awaiting pupils oncethey leave school, those challengescan be overcome with an entrepre-
neurial spirit which enables hard workers tobecome “a Richard Branson in the making”.
This was the message to pupils from advo-cate-turned-entrepreneur Denton Goodford, whose dream to own his own business aftermatriculating from Uitenhage High Schoolsaw him start up national company Multi-sure Corporation.
Goodford, who hosted Harvest ChristianSchool Grade 11 girls as part of a Women’sMonth initiative, also addressed Grade 12Uitenhage High learners at a ceremony cele-brating their final 40 days of school last week.
Goodford, who grew up in Uitenhage andafter studying in Cape Town became a suc-cessful state prosecutor, even drove a taxipart time while he furthered his studies be-fore he starteduphis ownpractice as anadvo-cate.
He encouraged pupils to follow theirdreams and to have a goal – something he didwhen he started up insurance and networkmarketing company Multisure in the early2000s.
“Sometimes you have to give up what youare successful at in order to enjoy more suc-cess,” he told pupils.
“Things won’t always go according to plan.Decide on your values. Constantly improveyour knowledge about your business and in-dustry.”
“Also be grateful and remember to thankthosewhoplayed apart in your life, no matterhow small.”
After opening its headquarters in Port Eliz-abeth in 2005, Multisure opened an office inJohannesburg in 2010, and Cape Town latelast year.
Plans to open in Durban, Bloemfontein,East London and George were at an advancedstage, said Goodford.

DON’T MISS NG KERK UITENHAGE-OOS
SATURDAY 31 AUGUST 2013 FROM 09:00.BAZAAR
PLEASE COME AND SUPPORT THIS GREAT CAUSE.
The “NG Kerk Uitenhage-Oos” is the happy owner of a 40 year old split packageair conditioning system that was first installed by Leon Wehmeyer in 1973.Leon’s Air-Conditioning has been servicing this unit annually ever sinceand says this is the secret to an air-conditioning unit lasting as long.Leon and his staff would like to take this opportunity to thank all theirloyal customers for their valued support.
Chaos and a total disgrace! This is the situa-tion at theGillespie Street transfer site situat-ed near the entrance to Uitenhage as well asthe transfer site next to the Hillwacht Road.
“There is no service delivery as the con-tract for the removal of the bins expired atthe end of June 2013. No contractor has beenappointed yet by the municipality. The ten-der to provide bins has only been tabled onAugust 16th,” said Councillor Pieter Ter-blanche.“Most of the transfer sites in the Nelson
Mandela Bay Municipality area are affectedby the unavailability of a contract to servicethem.”The transfer sites were closed by the direc-
torate of waste disposal and this resulted in
illegal dumping by residents.“What else should residents do with their
waste? I do not blame them as they pay forservices not rendered by the municipality.“Apart from the tender process which will
take awhile, we are also concerned regardingthe areas surrounding the transfer siteswhich are contaminated with waste and needto be cleared. The safety of residents is alsoa huge concern as they are intimidated by va-grants at the transfer sites.”According toCouncillorKennethKohl, this
matter is a huge concern as the litter pickingprojects have also been stopped as a result ofno funds and theunavailability of trucks. Theimpact of no service delivery regardingwasteremoval is also seen next to the R75.“Residents are paying their rates and taxes
and do not want to hear that themunicipalitydoesn’t have money,” said Councillor Kohl.

Pharmacist Mickey Swift is well-knownin Uitenhage as a Community Pharma-cist, who gives of his best to his clients.
Mickey is pleased to announce that he hasjoined the Klinicare Group of Pharmacies. This means that he will be able to bring thecompetitive Klinicare pricing and medicalaid savings to his loyal clients, while stillmaintaining his high standards of customercare.
At Klinicare Pharmacies, you will never be“Mr or Ms Next Please” and especially atKlinicare Mosel where Mickey and his dedi-cated team have the interest of their commu-nity and clients at heart.Affordable & quality medicationKlinicare Pharmacies was founded in 1995
in Port Elizabeth after Deon Schoeman andTertius Dames identified the need of consum-ers for affordable, quality medication withpersonalised service and advice.
As a result of the popularity of the conceptthere are now 11 pharmacies in the NelsonMandela Metropole trading under the Klini-care banner, with the latest being KlinicareMosel. With more than 189 members of staffthe group provides much needed employ-ment in the community.Chronic medicationsThe Klinicare Group of Pharmacies lis-
tened to the increasing number of clients thatwere experiencing problems receiving theirmedication by mail.
Together with like-minded pharmaciststhroughout South Africa, they formed theScriptsavers Group, with the view to takingthe debate to the medical aids on behalf of theconsumers. The end result was that many
medical aids agreed to allow their membersto receive chronic medications from their lo-cal pharmacy without any penalties to themember.
The Klinicare Group also feel strongly thatmedication needs to be affordable to all sec-tors of the population. As a result of the col-lective buying power of the Group they areable to negotiate better offers, the benefit ofwhich is carried over to the consumer.
Primary healthcare clinicsPrevention is better than cure and with
this in mind Klinicare Pharmacies have es-tablished Primary Healthcare Clinics at mostbranches.
These clinics offer services such as well-ness testing, state and private baby inocula-tions, family planning advice and prophylax-is. A Primary Healthcare Clinic is also in thepipeline for Klinicare Mosel.Community upliftmentThe Klinicare Group of pharmacies is in-
volved in several community upliftment en-deavours. They strongly believe that contri-butions should fund projects in their own ar-ea i.e. “local money stays local.”
Some of the projects the Group support in-clude St Francis Hospice and the annual ToyRun. All Klinicare Pharmacies are Toy Runcollection points.Enquiries:Klinicare Mosel 041 922 8515 or visit the
