That takes you to the “normal” site view, with the WordPress administrator black bar at the top. You will see the “edit” button above your council name and number. This button appears on your site in any area that can be edited by you – when you are logged in as the administrator. Click on “edit” here.

By clicking “edit” you return to the editing area within WordPress: Within this view you can edit the content from the page you just viewed. It’s very similar to Microsoft Word. Please highlight and type over/replace content you wish to change so the formatting (font name, size, style, etc.) remains consistent across all local council websites. If you are not familiar with how to add email links or website links, you’ll find instructions later in this document. Once you have updated your content, click the “update” button. To return to the site, click “visit site”.

ADDING EVENTS ON YOUR LOCAL COUNCIL WEBSITE To add an event to your local council website, remain in the WordPress environment (not in the “visit site” view) and click on “Events” from the left-hand navigation. You will see a listing of all events your local council has published. To add a new event, click “Add New”. Give the event a title (enter title here) and description in the large box. You may also check an event category. *Keep in mind that all local council events published are included in the master calendar on the main UCT website.

Scroll down the page and add any event details you wish, including date(s), time(s), venue name and address, contact information and an option to include a Google Map. You must include at a minimum the date for your event. Be sure your time zone is set correctly. If you have any problems with this, contact David, Jen or Linda. When you are finished adding event details, scroll up and click “Publish”. This adds the event to your local council page. * Events do not publish immediately to the master calendar – they are scheduled to update hourly.

If you have published events in the past but they are not showing on your local council page, it may be that all of your events have expired (i.e. – the date has passed). NOTES:

The Web & Social Media presentation and all supporting documents are available on the Members’ Area of the UCT website.

The Local Council websites allow for editing all content, events, listing of officers, contact information and news, HOWEVER, if you want to change your cover/banner photo, you will need to email a digital photo to a member of the UCT Social Media Team (David, Jen or Linda ) to add it to your website for you.
