Summer Transformation PlanAGES: 16+CREATOR: Rob MagbanuaLOCATION: Mark Green Sports CenterFEE: $15 for Sports Center MembersIt is no secret that if you want to achieve the best results in the gym, you need a plan. The problem with most workout plans are: • They don't take into account the specific gym equipment at your gym. • They don't provide optional or alternative exercises for your ability level. • They don't tell you how to progress. That is where the MGSC Summer Transformation Workout comes in. This workout plan is created with one gym in mind: The Mark Green Sports Center. It is also created with your schedule/availability in mind, as you can choose to receive the 3-Day (Full Body) or 4-day workout plan (Upper/Lower Split). In each option you will find an explanation of the workout plan, alternative and optional exercises to optimize the workout to your ability and goals, as well as workout logs to keep track of your progress. You'll find an introduction video to the plan on our Instagram page along with exercise tips. Follow us at @markgreensportscenter for more information. It's time to get serious about your fitness goals. Whether you want to loose that stubborn belly fat or put on some lean muscle, the approach to your weight training should be the same. PARKINSON'S CLASSES / SENIORSPARKINSON'S CLASSES / SENIORS

Do you know anyone with Parkinson’s disease? We offer Parkinson's specific classes at the Mark Green Sports Center. These classes address the different needs of someone with PD and can help improve symptoms, quality of life, and move-ment. We also offer support groups and caregiver/partner support groups.

The Mark Green Sports Center began offering these programs in 2016 with the support of a Parkinson's Foundation Community Grant Award. Since then the Parkinson's Foundation has continu-ously supported this program in so many ways. We are proud to continue the fight against Parkinson's through exercise and move-ment.

Participants have the option to register for an individual month long class, or a monthly membership option that provides access to all class offerings (16-20 classes per month). Please see a detailed description of our current offerings below.

PWR! MovesDAYS & TIMES: Monday & Wednesday • 11:15–12:15 pmFEE: $62This program created by Dr. Farley, a physical therapist, aims to maintain and restore skills that deteriorate and interfere with everyday movements. The 4 main movements of this program can be adapted and progressed into multiple postures (floor, all 4’s, sitting, and standing). Research has demonstrated that the move-ments in this program as well as the manner in which they are per-formed can translate into everyday activities, essentially improving overall quality of life. This class will help train those affected with PD to get better with exercise. This class takes place both virtually and in-person. The participant has the option to participate virtual-ly via the Zoom platform, or come to the Mark Green Sports Center to exercise in-person.

PD Class MembershipDAYS: Monday–ThursdayTIMES: Various TimesFEE: $85 per monthThis option provides the participant the option to take all of our PD Exercise class offerings (currently PWR! Moves & Rock Steady Boxing, 16–20 classes per month), as well as take part in weekly fitness orientations in the aerobics room every Friday. You also have anytime access to our Fitness Room equipment with this option. First and last month payments are taken up-front, and you can cancel anytime. Classes require a medical release waiver to be signed by your physician prior to registering.

Call the Fitness Coordinator - Robert Magbanua 510.675.5600 or email: [email protected] for more information on how to register or to inquire about our caregiver support group meetings. You can also visit our website at www.unioncity.org/parkinsons

Rock Steady BoxingDAYS: Tuesday & ThursdayTIMES: 1:30–2:45 pmFEE: $78Fight back against the symptoms associated with Parkinson’s by training like a fighter. By nature, boxing is a workout that de-mands the body to move in all planes of motion and challenges the mind and body to adapt to every stimulus. In this boxing class you will be able to build strength, power, speed, and endurance, all of which improve quality of life outside of the gym. This is an in-person class.

Memorial Bench ProgramThe City of Union City is well known for its beautiful parks that are enjoyed by many residents and guests. The Community & Recreation Services Department, along with the Public Works Department, have developed a new Memorial Bench program for residents. Memorial benches are a beautiful way to acknowledge and celebrate the life and legacy of a departed loved one, or to honor those who have made an impact in the community.

Family and friends can donate an attractive memorial bench with a personalized engraved plaque at one of the City’s many parks. Not all parks have space available, but staff will do their best to accommodate location requests. The donation covers the purchase and installation of the bench, as well as the personalized plaque engraving and site preparation.

For more information, or to request a Memorial Bench Application, please email [email protected] or call 510.675.5492
