Missing People Policy – Residence Protocols:

a) asking the reporting person(s) if they have reason to believe the alleged missing person may be a

risk of harm or self-harm, b) inviting the reporting person(s) to contact the University’s local police detachment directly to report

their concerns to police, c) the Student Housing and Hospitality Services (SHHS) staff member reporting the concern to their

Manager who will alert the appropriate SHHS administrator.

The appropriate SHHS administrator will initiate efforts to contact the resident using the contact information the resident has provided. Should the resident not respond within a satisfactory period, the SHHS administrator will alert the local police detachment regarding the situation, provide the police with the Emergency Contact information the resident has provided to SHHS, and request the police to open an investigation. The University’s Vice President Students office will be alerted that a resident may be missing. The University will cooperate with and support the police investigation and notification procedures.
