1 Product Orientation and Feature
1.1 Product Orientation
With the advent of the 3G era, mobile services are diversifying. Against this backdrop, refined operation based on a detailed classification of market needs has become the primary factor that contributes to the growth of mobile operators' revenues. Statistics show that 70% of all mobile services occur indoors. To explore the values of networks deeply and improve user experience, an increasing number of mobile operators have started to deploy indoor coverage. Indoor mobile services, which bring about high profits, attract much attention from mobile operators. However, electromagnetic waves on the core frequency bands of 3G services are inadequate in diffraction and therefore subject to severe penetration loss, which leads to problems in indoor intensive coverage, for example, coverage holes, service drops, and network instability.
Tailored solutions to indoor coverage extend indoor areas covered by radio signals, thereby improving the signal quality and network capacity. Such solutions satisfy indoor users' requirements for 3G services, thereby improving user experience. Developed to solve the indoor coverage problem, Huawei uBro solution meets mobile operators' requirements for a detailed classification of market needs and enables mobile operators to deploy normal indoor coverage, intensive coverage in office buildings, and hot-spot coverage quickly at low cost.
The Access Point (AP), which incorporates the functions of the NodeB and some functions of the RNC, is a radio access device in the uBro solution developed in compliance with the 3GPP FDD specifications of R99/R4/R5/R6/R8. As one AP product portfolio, the UAP2816 provides indoor users with improved radio access services, thus eliminating indoor coverage holes and shares the load on the macro network.
In the uBro solution, the AP, AP Home Register (AHR), AP manager, and Access Gateway (AG) are added to the existing UMTS network. The standard Uu interface is used between the UAP2816 and the UE to ensure compatibility with the commercial terminals on the market. Figure 1-1 shows the position of the UAP2816 on the UMTS network in Huawei uBro solution.

1.2 Product Features
The UAP2816 is mainly used for indoor coverage,in a household or at premises of a SOHO or SME, implementing seamless UMTS network coverage. The UAP2816 features dual Ethernet ports, IP access, intelligent network planning and optimization, and flexible coverage. In addition, the UAP2816 complies with the HSPA+ and R8 HNB standard.
Improved Indoor Coverage Improving User Experience As the UMTS network access device, the UAP2816 meets the requirements for
indoor coverage. It achieves seamless coverage of UMTS networks by solving the problem of poor penetration capabilities and high 3G frequency bands.
The UAP2816 supports HSPA and provides high-speed and highly stable data services. This ensures that end users can enjoy high-quality UMTS services provided by the UAP2816.
High Usability Lowering Costs of Network Deployment and Maintenance The UAP2816 is installed on the user side. Therefore, it does not require a
dedicated equipment room. In the uBro solution, a UAP2816 used for single-point coverage supports Plug and Play (PnP). Therefore, the installation and commissioning of the UAP2816 are convenient. With the UAP2816, a UMTS network can be deployed quickly.
Using the AP manager, which is a unified management and maintenance platform, the UAP2816 automatically performs network discovery and parameter settings. The UAP2816 supports intelligent network planning and optimization, and software upgrades are automatically performed. Thus, the usability is improved, and the network maintenance and optimization costs are reduced.
The UAP2816 supports the R8 HNB standard. Through the standard Iuh interface, connection between multiple vendors is supported. In addition, the UAP2816 supports the TR-196 data model. Thus, configurable parameters and configurations of NMSs of different vendors can be highly consistent, enhancing the maintainability and reducing maintenance costs.
The UAP2816 supports the Internet data service bypasses, reducing the traffic pressure on the core network of the operator.
Variety of Functions Raising User Satisfaction The UAP2816 supports the customized location indication function to accurately
inform a UE of the network that it camps on. Compared with the macro UMTS network, the uBro network covered by the UAP2816 provides better coverage and enables mobile operators to offer lower tariffs.
The current household wideband users use the single-port modem, and the current LAN users usually have only one LAN port in the house. The UAP2816 uses the dual-port design and supports route forwarding, thus enhancing indoor 3G coverage and meeting the requirements for network surfing on the PC.
The UAP2816 supports four UE admission strategies: Open, Closed, Group, and Hybrid to meet the customized requirements of different users in all kinds of scenarios.

Handovers and cell reselection can be performed between AP cells or between an AP cell and a macro cell to ensure excellent user experience.
The differentiated billing is supported. Therefore, users of different attributes can use different billing standards.
Powerful Mechanism Guaranteeing Security The UAP2816 is connected to the CN through the public IP network and adopts
the IPSec tunnel mode for the secure and reliable data transmission. All IP transmission reduces the cost of operation and ensures the quality of service.
The UAP2816 performs IPSec negotiation in compliance with the IKEv2 protocol and use high-level security authentication modes based on the EAP-AKA and EAP-SIM.
The UAP2816 supports user authentication and admission control. Thus, unauthorized UEs cannot access the UAP2816, and the operators’ investments are protected.
Supporting software package signature verification and UAP2816 startup with signature verification.

Through the AP manager, the maintenance personnel can subscribe to alarms reported by the UAP2816, query the history alarms, and query and monitor active alarms. The UAP2816 supports realtime reporting of alarms. The maintenance personnel can log in to the UAP2816 through the AP manager to view key parameter settings and alarm information, which helps handle the alarm and rectify the fault.
Through the LMT, the maintenance personnel can perform interface tracing, signaling tracing, and fault diagnosis for the UAP2816 to locate faults quickly. They can also save the tracing data as files, which can be reviewed through Trace Viewer.
Advanced Software Management for Smooth Upgrades and Capacity Expansion
The offline configuration is supported. The initial parameters of the UAP2816 are set through the network management offline configuration template before delivery. The configured parameters are then delivered to the UAP2816 through the AP manager. This reduces human intervention during the delivery and increases the delivery efficiency.
Through the AP manager, the maintenance personnel can perform configuration management, task management, fault management, and software management in batches and in a remote manner.
Through the AP manager, the maintenance personnel can set zone parameters for the UAP2816. After the UAP2816 is powered on, it automatically downloads the zone parameter settings from the AP manager and completes data configuration.
Through the AP manager, the maintenance personnel can perform batch upgrades or upgrade UAP2816s that meet specific criteria. In addition, the maintenance personnel can create scheduled automatic upgrade tasks to ensure that the services are not affected by upgrades.
Robust Monitoring Functionality for Tracking the Network Operating Status
Through the LMT, the maintenance personnel can monitor the CPU usage and system performance in real time and conduct 141 tests.
Through the AP manager, the maintenance personnel can subscribe to the performance data of the UAP2816, combine the performance data generated within a period of time, and send the performance data to the performance report system (PRS). The PRS parses, summarizes, and analyzes the performance data. In addition, the PRS lists top problems and performs interference and call drop analysis. Complete performance statistics and KPI analysis enable mobile operators to accurately trace the network status.
