As a phenomenon of current megacity-specific development processes, we consider Urban

Agriculture to be the whole spatial dimensions and dynamics of the development process in

today’s urban growth centres which lead to new hybrid and climate-sensitive forms between

rural and urban space. The result is a new form of reciprocal urban-rural linkages which shape

the nature of future urban development and living conditions.

The project therefore places the three dimensions of agriculture, urban development and

climate change together in a new perspective framework, whilst simultaneously placing all three

in a new operational constellation under the heading “governance”.

pilot project 3Oued El Maleh

The project aims to analyse and examine to what extent Urban Agriculture

can make a relevant contribution to climate-optimised and sustainable

urban development as an integrative factor in urban growth centres.

Urban Agriculture is understood as every form of formal or informal

agricultural production within a city, whereby in the context of urban

growth centres “city” equates to the urban region.

pilot project 1 Technopoleurban agriculture + industry

pilot project 2 Ouled Ahmedurban agriculture+ informal settlement

Objective:

The pilot project entitled « Urban Agriculture and Informal Settlement »

will undertake the setting up of a Green School at Douar Ouled Ahmed.

There, the pupils will have the opportunity to learn about sustainable

organic agriculture, through field work.

The pilot project will also attempt to introduce the pupils to the

necessary rules and habits for healthy and tasty food, as much as it will

teach them the practice at home of a micro-scale agriculture.

Objective:The pilot project entitled „Urban Agriculture and Industry“ will endeavour to prove fruitful forms of coexistence between industries and agriculture, through the optimizing of water use in the various industrial processes, and through the treatment of used water, as well as its reuse in agriculture. In such a context, this pilot project contributes to the manifold use of water, through the following technical practices: • Implementation of state-of-the-art technologies, in the fields of efficient used water treatment, and simple, low-cost systems; • Setting up of sophisticated irrigation systems, in order to optimize the agricultural production; • Increase of opportunities of higher energy production, and notably in the form of biogas.

Objective:In the spirit of aiming to maintain the heritage of the valley, the pilot project strives for a symbiosis between the needs and potentials of the city dwellers and the inhabitants of the valley. In this context, the pilot project wants to contribute to the development of the valley and its inhabitants by the following objectives: • Give support to the local people in order to diversify their source of income; • lead to a sustainable and participatory water management;• preserve a great number of peri-urban open spaces / natural heritage; • find ways of significantly increasing the climate-optimised, and energy efficient agricultural production; • support the setting up of ecological tourism equipments;• support the urban-rural linkages.

pilot project 3 Oued El Malehurban agriculture+ peri-urban tourism

pilot project 4 Dar Bouazza urban agriculture+ healthy food production

Objective:

The pilot project entitled “Urban Agriculture and Healthy Food

Production” aims at developing a modern organic food production on

the site of the agro-ecological pedagogical Farm of Dar Bouazza. The

organic products, which would be singled out through a local quality

label, will enable the creation of direct and fair relations between the

producers and the consumers involved in supporting the proximity

(within reach) production. The pilot project is addressed to the producers

and consumers in Dar Bouazza, and in Casablanca. It welcomes the

peri-urban population to try out the agricultural activity, for the sake of

a healthy life, and as a source of income.
