Table 1.27a Cumulative UA Scholar Program Participation
Since the UA Scholar program began in fall 1999, a cumulative total of 9,245 students have enrolled and received a UAScholar distribution from the University of Alaska, which illustrates the overall impact this program has had on Alaskaand its residents.
Note: The UA Scholars Award is a four-year scholarship, totaling $12,000, awarded to the top 10 percent of graduatingseniors from qualified Alaska high schools who enroll anywhere in the University of Alaska system. Effective beginningin fall 2015, the total UA Scholars award received its second increase from $11,000 to $12,000. 'New Paid' includes anyUA Scholar who received a UA Scholar distribution for the first time in the reported term. 'Cumulative Paid' is the sumof all paid UA Scholars from previous terms through the reported term. (Terms with no students not displayed.)

Effective beginning in fall 2015, the total UA Scholars awardreceived its second increase from $11,000 to $12,000. In fall 2019, 33 percent of eligible graduating seniors attended UA.

Note: An enrolled student is counted as a UA Scholar for eight years following the student's UA Scholar recruit term. 'New Paid' includes any UA Scholar who received a UA Scholar distribution for the first time in the reported term. 'Other Enrolled' includes anystudent who received their first UA Scholardistribution prior to the reported term. Reporting level headcount is unduplicated. AO headcount totalsadd up to more than theUniversity totals and University totals add up to more than the system total. This occurs because it is common for students to enroll at more than one AO or University, thereforesome students would be double counted if headcounts are summed across AOs and Universities.

Note:An enrolled student is counted asa UA Scholar for eight years following thestudent's UA Scholar recruit term. Thecredit hoursof a degree-seeking student enrolled in courses offeredby thestudent's program AO are reported at thedegree level of the student's program (for example at the baccalaureate level). UA degree seeking (UA DS) students taking courses from anAO other than their program AO are reported at the UA DS level. Credit hours taken by non-degree seeking students are reported at the non-degree seeking (NDS) level. Reporting levelheadcount is unduplicated and headcount includes students who audit credit courses. AO headcount for UA DS and NDS totals add up to more than University totals and Universityheadcounts add up to more than the system total. This occurs because it is common for students to be concurrently enrolled at multiple AOs and/or multiple Universities in the thesamesemester. Therefore, some students would be double counted if headcounts were summed across AOs and Universities.

Table 1.30 UA Scholars Headcount by Degree Seeking Status and Academic OrganizationFall 2018
Note: An enrolled student is counted asa UA Scholar for eight years following thestudent's UA Scholar recruit term. Within the UA System every student is admitted into oneprogram uniquely defined by AO, degree and major, thusdetermining thestudent status to be UA degree seeking (UA DS) or non-degree seeking (NDS). Whenreporting at theUniversity level, degree-seeking status for students enrolled at multiple AOs withina University is counted only once and is classified by the student's highest degree status at theUniversity. Degree status at the system level for students enrolled at multiple Universities is counted onlyonce and is classified by thestudent’s highestUniversity degree statuswithin the system. Students pursuing a degree at an AO or University other than the oneat which they are taking courses are reported as UA degree seeking (UA DS). Studentswho are not pursuing a degree at anycampus within theUA System are reported asnon-degree seeking (NDS) students. A licensure degree seeking statusdoes not imply that classstanding is licensure.

Note: Developmental courses provide basic or supplemental preparation for introductory college courses and are available inseveral areas, with math and English making up the vast majority of courses taken. Developmental coursework is notapplicable to transcripted certificates or to associate, baccalaureate, or graduate degrees, even by petition. Headcount includesstudents who audit credit courses. Headcount is unduplicated at the reporting level, so a student taking a developmental math course and a developmental English course is counted only once in the "Developmental math or English" category.Developmental math courses are those with the subject code of DEVM or MATH, with a course number between 050 and099. Developmental English courses are those with the subject code of DEVE, WRTG, and PREP, with a course numberbetween 050 and 099. A first-time freshman is a degree seeking student enrolled in the first semester of an undergraduatedegree program. Transfer undergraduate, graduate and non-degree students are not considered first-time freshmen, bydefinition. An enrolled student is counted as a UA Scholar for eight years following the student's UA Scholar recruit term, regardless of remaining eligibility or whether they receive UA Scholars funding that semester. Note: An enrolled student is counted as a UA Scholar for eight years following the student's UA Scholar recruit term. This table reports financial aidpaid to students for the fall 2018, spring 2019, and summer 2019 semesters by class standing. A student often holds multiple class standings over thecourse of an aid year; however, for the the purpose of this report students are reported under one class standing. Student class standing is assignedthrough a ranking process which first chooses the lowest degree seeking class standing a student held during the aid year, then considers non-degreeand non-credit status. * Figures above only include UA Foundation aid reported in the Banner Financial Aid module.
In the above table, students are reported at the University awarding the financial aid package. A UA Scholar may receive financial aid from oneUniversity while enrolled at another University. Fall 2018 Enrolled UA Scholars reflects enrollment headcount at each University for the fall semesteronly and is comparable to Table 1.28 for University and UA System headcounts.
