Plants can be classified based on the sizes of the plants – very small, medium or tall.

Plants can be classified based on the nature of the stems – thick and hard, thin and hard, green and tender that can stand straight, and weak that cannot stand straight.

Plants can be classified based on the where the branches appear – at the base of the stem or higher up.

Herbs are small plants less than 1m high. They have green, tender stems with few branches. Tomato, Mint and Brinjal plants are some examples of herbs.

ShrubsTypes of Plants

Shrubs are medium-sized plants about 1-3 m in height. They have thin and hard stems with branches that arise near the base of the stem. Rose, Hibiscus and Lemon plants

are some examples of shrubs.

Trees are tall and generally over 3m in height. They have thick, hard and brown stems, with branches that arise from the upper part of the stem.

CreepersTypes of Plants

Creepers are plants that have weak stems and cannot stand upright. Plants like strawberry spread on the ground.

Climbers climb up with a support. Plants like the Grape Vine and Money Plant are climbers.
