Type Testing According to VDE-AR-N 4105 Background The installed capacity of decentralized power generation generation systems (especially PV systems) has increased significantly in recent years. The VDE- AR-N 4105 regulation is meant to improve the connection to and parallel operation of generation systems with low voltage networks. The Challenge Up to now, regulations and standards did not sufficiently account for the growing systemic relevance of these generation systems. In order to ensure stability in the system, VDE FNN has prepared a regula- tion (technical note in the form of a recom- mendation) which includes a cutoff in critical phases. Starting on 01/01/2012 the VDE-AR-N 4105 application rule will apply for new PV systems on low voltage net- works; it will become binding for all other generation systems on low voltage net- works on 07/01/2012. Among other things, this standard formulates requirements for conditional provision of reactive power, voltage compensation and the support of frequency within the electricity network. These requirements are intended to ensure that the system remains stable and provide a consistent quality of electric power.
