W e r e o n t h e w e b ! w w w . t s u m c . o r g "Embracing the Future NOW" (Part 3) A couple of months ago I began a newsletter series on some ministry principles I receiv ed at a recent retreat. Let me recap them: 1. To reach people no one else is reaching we have to do things nobody else is doing. 2. Never let the resources dictate the vision. 3. When launching min istries, evaluate all as sumptions. 4. Question the Valu es: What do we v alue? What do our act ions say we value? What shou ld we value? 5. We are determined to be fundamentally preoccupied with thos e we are trying to reach rather than with those we are trying to keep. 6. What do I believe is impossible to do in my field, but if it could be done would profoundly affect my field? 7. If your memories exceed your dreams, your end is near. (from Rev. Paul Rasmussen) This month I want to focus in on principle #3 — "When launching new ministries, evaluate all assumptions." We all know th at assumptions ca n be very wrong. The Bible gives us several exampl es. Job's friends, for in stance, wrongly assumed Job was to blame for his adver sity. In John 9 Jesus and the discipl es encounter a blind man. The disciples ask, "Thi s man or his parent s that he was born bl ind?"
