what George Green DoesDistrictOneCouncilman George Dont you know
who I am? Green has been throwing his
weightaroundagain, thistimetryingto get road crews to work on his
block, beyond the scope of their assigned
tasks.YoumightrememberGreenasthe Councilman that attempted to have
the Comal CountyFairAssociationsfairgroundslease revoked as
retaliation for Fair staff declining to allow Green to park in a
restricted area, and his obligatory charges of racism on the part
of Fair staff that followed. Thats not the only time hes done
something like that, only our favorite. In short, the Councilman
has a long history of demanding special treatment
aroundtown, whichhasonlygottenworse since he took offce. At the July
13 Council meeting, George stepped down from the dais, and took
center stage at the podium, in full concerned-public-servant mode,
to explain to Council that part ofLomaVistastreet, thesectionbetween

make his point. The frst was that it was overlooked, and the other
was that, in retrospect, itshould have
beenincluded, asevidencedbythisquote: Its like building a home. You
can start out with all the features you select and pick and somehow
or another by the time you get to a certain stage of that home
build that, hey, something has been left out. According to Green,
it was negligence inplanningonthepartofCityStaff,and
negligenceinvotingonthepartofthe Councilhesitson,ANDnotnegligenceat

this: Its just like buildingahome.Imean, notuntilyouget to a certain

WITH BRANT FREEMANHard KnockinPre-seasonTop25pollshavebeenreleased,
high school football training camps have opened and this Sunday
well actually get to watch some (albeit terrible) NFL football with
Minnesota and Pittsburgh playing each other in the annual
pre-season Hall of Fame Game from Canton Ohio. Next week also marks
the beginning of Hard Knocks, theHBONFLseriesdocumentinga specifc
team during their training camps in the
leaduptotheregularseason.Thisyear, that team is the Houston Texans,
and hopefully the show can breathe some life into whats been an
otherwise bland franchise.BeforeTexansfansgetupset,letme
coverafewthings:1)TheteamIlike,the Tennessee Titans, are a bit of
garbage fre of a franchise right now and even though their
futurehaspromisewithMarcusMariottaas their quarterback, the Titans
are a few more 4-12/5-11seasonsawayfromcontending. 2) I grew up an
Oilers fan, so I have cheered for Houston football before. 3) JJ
Watt is the bestfootballplayerontheplanetandisa
generationalplayer.Youknowhowpeople talk about Jerry Rice? We will
talk about Watt in the same manner 20 years from now.
Seriously.Herearehiscyborgian numbers just 4 years into his career:

(third most ever foraplayerinthefrstfourseasonsoftheir career). 12
forced fumbles the last three years.

way, Craig Biggio, Tracy McGrady, Warren Moon, etc. (I realize Im
probably not making a lot of H-town friends today um, how about
that Carlos Correa?!). With the quarterback battle looming between
Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallett, Im not sure Id

Watt to create a fearsomepassrushforyearstocome.Arian Foster
remains as one of the best running backs in the AFC. Im not sure
the Texans are in a position
totrulycompetewiththeColtsforthedivision title this year (although
theyre probably a safe bet to sweep Tennessee, dammit) but could
they be in the playoff hunt come December? If they can stay healthy
and get even decent play from theQBpositionthensure, whynot?Fornow
well settle for watching third string fullbacks and barely
NFL-caliber defensive tackles compete for

itll be the start of adding some sprinkles to the vanilla.
