Young Starters With eight underclassmen (five true freshmen) and six upperclassmen, this is one of the youngest teams Chris Poole has seen in years. Seven members of the team had no Division I experience prior to this season. The last time FSU has had a greater number of under-classmen than upperclassmen was in 2013, and the last time Coach Poole saw at least five true freshmen was in the 2016 season.
ACC Network Extra Florida State will broadcast every home match this season on ACC Network Extra, the conference’s online channel dedicated for the broadcast of ACC sports and programming. The Seminoles’ match against the North Carolina Tar Heels will simultaneously air on ESPNU.
Coach Cecile Reynaud Inducted into Hall of Fame
Former head coach Dr. Cecile Reynaud is credited for turning the FSU volleyball program into the powerhouse that it has been for decades, leading her teams to a num-ber of Metro Conference Championships, ACC Champion-ships, and began the tradition of NCAA Tournament ap-pearances. In recognition for all she has done for the Seminoles, the sport on the international level and as a roll model for coaches and athletes, Reynaud will be inducted into the AVCA Hall of Fame this November.
50 Seasons of FSU Volleyball The Florida State volleyball program was established in 1968, and has flourished into one of the top programs in the country since then. The team has celebrated the milestone this season with a special logo that has been placed on the court, and the staff invited parents of current players and some of the program’s most important alumni out for a Parents and Alumni Weekend.
POOLE GOES FOR 800: With 798 career Division I wins, head coach Chris Poole is currently the fi fth winningest active Division I coach in the nation. Poole currently has 821 overall career wins and 152 career ACC wins.
NOLES DROP FROM RANKINGS IN WEEK SIX: The Florida State volleyball team fell out of the AVCA Rank-ings in the recent poll released by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) on Oct. 2. This breaks a 96-week ranking streak that began on Sept. 19, 2011 when the Seminoles brandished a 23rd overall ranking. The Noles entered the season as the second of two Atlantic Coast Conference programs ranked in the Top 25, but surpassed the league favorite, North Carolina (24) in the rankings. FSU’s preseason No. 15 ranking marked the seventh time in the ten years under head coach Chris Poole that the Seminoles have entered the season ranked in the AVCA Top 20. The highest in that span came in 2012 when Florida State opened the campaign 12th, after reaching the NCAA Final Four the previous season.
NOLES SECOND IN ACC PRESEASON POLLS: The Seminoles were picked to fi nish second to North Carolina by the league’s 15 head coaches in the 2017 campaign. The Tar Heels garnered 196 points - out of 196 possible points - and 14 fi rst-place votes. Coaches were not al-lowed to include their own team in their predicted order of fi nish. North Carolina’s roster features 11 returning mem-bers from last year’s squad.
KUBURA PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Milica Kubura earned her fourth career weekly conference honor following the team’s ACC opening weekend. Against Virginia and Vir-ginia Tech, the senior outside hitter amassed 40 kills on 64 attacks with only three errors for a hitting percentage of .595. She led all three teams in kills, hitting percentage and total blocks (12).
BURKERT DOUBLES DOWN FOR JUNIOR CAMPAIGN: The Seminoles’ junior setter, Brianne Burkert, has now re-corded a double-double in 13 of the 18 matches FSU has played this season. Burkert became the fi rst Seminole since Cassie McLaughlin (2003) to earn a triple double when she recorded 12 kills, 32 assists and 20 digs against Notre Dame this season. She is the third Florida State player to earn a kill-assist-dig triple-double, and the eighth different Seminole to accomplish the feat since 1986. Af-ter earning four double-doubles in 2015 and eight in 2016, Burkert is on track to set more records in the 2017 season.

KUBURA AND CALKINS ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM: The Seminoles’ two senior outside hitters were honored by the coaches following their outstanding performance for the Seminoles’ offense at the Home2 Suites by Hilton Tallahassee Seminole Invitational. “I’m really proud of Mili and Nat for being consistent throughout the weekend, said head coach Chris Poole. “We had a lot of different players step up at critical times this weekend, and I’m hoping the experience of playing matches helps this young team begin to gel as the season progresses.” Calkins fi nished the weekend with 33 kills on 93 total attacks (.281), while Kubura led the Seminoles’ offense with 37 kills on 61 total attacks (.479).
CALKINS TOURNAMENT MVP: Following her standout performance at the Hampton Inn & Suites Waco North Baylor Invitational, senior Natasha Calkins was named Tournament MVP. Over the course of the weekend, Calkins recorded 51 kills on 140 total attacks and nine total blocks. “I’m really proud of Natasha and how she has handled her new role as an outside hitter,” said head coach Chris Poole.” Nat was a middle blocker her fi rst two years at Santa Clara University and we started her as a right side hitter last season after transferring to FSU. However, due to injuries the last few weeks of season, we moved her to the left side and she did very well. We have worked hard in the spring to try and help her catch up to the new posi-tion and I thought she had an outstanding fi rst weekend. I’m looking forward to seeing how much she can improve over the fall season.” Calkins earned two career highs in the tournament, notching 22 kills against Illinois State (her previous was 13, vs. Florida 9/14/16) and 57 total attacks against UC Santa Barbara -- a record she had just set earlier in the day by tallying 51 total attacks against Illinois State.
KUBURA PRESEASON ALL-ACC: Florida State’s star outside hitter Milica Kubura was named to the Preseason All-ACC team in 2017. Kubura, also a First Team All-ACC honoree in 2016, was a solid two-way player for Florida State as she fi n-ished ranked in the top fi ve places on the team in seven major categories including kills (376-1st), kills/set (2.98-1st), hitting percentage (.327-2nd), assisted blocks (78-3rd), total blocks (84-3rd), blocks/set (0.67-3rd) and solo blocks (6-4th). Kubura was instrumental in guiding the Seminoles to a 17-3 mark in ACC action in 2016 after her .327 hitting per-

Entering his tenth year at Florida State, head coach Chris Poole has established the Semi-noles as fi xture in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top 25 and among the elite programs in the nation as he has rejuvenated a program that has become a national contender year in and year out. When Poole inherited the Florida State volleyball program in the summer of 2008, he took over a team that had failed to reach the 20-win plateau in fi ve-straight seasons and hadn’t been to the NCAA Tournament since 2002. It was a program looking for answers; a program looking to get back to the winning ways it had grown accustomed to in the 1980s and early ‘90s. However, since the beginning of the 2009 season, when Poole began overseeing the schedul-ing process, the Seminoles have gone head-to-head with 35 non-conference opponents that were ranked in the top 25 of the AVCA polls. By facing those upper echelon programs, Poole has estab-lished Florida State’s schedule as one of the most diffi cult in the nation for the last seven years. Ac-cording to richkern.com the Seminoles strength of schedule has ranked seventh, eighth and fourth in succession in each of the last three seasons. By the close of the 2015 season Poole further cemented his name among the best coaches in the sport as he led the Seminoles to at least 25 wins for the fi fth consecutive campaign. Along with surpassing 200 wins in his Florida State career Poole climbed to seventh among active coaches in NCAA history with 761 career wins. The 2015 season, which culminated in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at in-state rival Florida, was highlighted by the fi ve-member senior class which included Caroline Dadowski, Laura Dadowski, Karlie Hauer, Mercedes Vaughn and Nicole Walch. Under the direction of Poole, that quintuplet capped off one of the best four-year runs in program history, brandishing a 109-23 overall record, including a 54-2 mark in Tully Gymnasium, and along the way fi nished 68-10 in ACC action. Poole’s continued development of Nicole Walch witnessed the Stuart, Fla., native become the fi rst player in the rally scoring era to crack the program’s top 10 list in kills (1,466) after driving home a team-high 459 kills. By leading the team in eight major categories, Walch was a unanimous selection for All-ACC First Team and was named Senior CLASS Top 10 Finalist, AVCA All-East Region Team and AVCA Honorable Mention All-American. Poole’s program also drew individual honors for Sarah Burrington (AVCA Honorable Mention All-American, AVCA All-East Region Team, All-ACC First Team); Brianne Burkert (All-ACC Freshman
Team); Katie Horton (All-ACC Second Team); Milica Kubura (AVCA Honorable Mention All-East Region Team, All-ACC Second Team, CoSIDA Academic All-District IV Team) and Hailey Luke (CoSIDA Academic All-District IV Team).
