The Value Proposition of Twitter
Find Your Twitter Team
Recruit a Team
• 1-3 individual(s) within the organization (marketing, PR,
or sales) that are familiar with Twitter and the game
• Make sure to select people that:
– Will commit to attending the games (that’s why you want more
than one)
– Have a solid understanding of the team, players and rules of
game
– Have good writing skills and are witty
Create a Twitter Account
Official Team Account
Go to www.twitter.com and create a new account.
Fill out Biography information with:
– Link to team’s main site
– Location
– Team Standings (wins/losses – keep data updated)
– Information on next upcoming game (again keep updated)
– Add picture of team logo
Brand profile page accordingly by uploading a background
Be a Force on Twitter
Follow these three rules to be a force to reckon
with on Twitter:
1. Deliver interesting and timely information/news
2. Connect a community of fans and people of similar
interests together
3. Support other grassroot efforts – inner and outer
connectivity
First Steps
Begin Tweeting
Live Tweet the Games: This is why it’s important to have
people tweeting that understand the game, know the
players and rules. Also why good, witty and engaging
writers are better.
Daily Tweeting: Tweet facts, news, updates and “inside”
information. Information about the players, practices and
other happenings within the organization. Be informative
and engaging.

Find Followers – Your Fans
Find Fans
Twitter Search (www.search.twitter.com): Do a key word
search (name of team and players) in twitter search for
people already talking about the team. Follow them.
Add Twitter to Main Site: Might or might not want to add
the twitter widget – however, link to twitter account
somewhere on the main team site
At the Games: Make a public announcement to fans at the
game to @teamname to for immediate follow back

Additional Tweeting
Engage With Fans
Tweet Blog Posts: To be much appreciated by loyal bloggers
– tweet their blog posts/write-ups of the games. Not just major
paper or blogger write-ups.
Retweeting: Retweet relevant fan tweets for others to read.
Ask For Feedback: Do not fear to ask fans for feedback,
questions or comments.
Reply to Fans: @teamname is someone communicating with
you – communicate back whenever possible

The Extra Mile
Fan Tweetup: Arrange a fan tweetup (or participate in one if fans schedule one first) before, after or for a game. Offer discounted tickets!?!?
Showcase Live Tweeting: At random times run a screen of the live tweeting. (Use hashtag)
Prizes For Live Tweeting: Run contests during the games and reward the fans live tweeting. (Their tweeting is broadcasting the game to their networks – raising awareness)
