5. Join the conversation • The Golden Rule:
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you – Tweet to others what you would like to be tweeted to you – Tweet everyone the way you’d like to be tweeted
• Don’t talk exclusively about your business – 80 percent – Tweets about and for others – 20 percent – Tweets about your business
• Be honest, responsive, personable, and nice

Things to tweet about (80%) • Industry news, research, studies • Interesting articles you read • News from complementary businesses • Events that interest your customers • Reply to messages to you, about you, or about the industry • Questions you’d like answered • Retweets of interesting tweets • Observations about your industry • Local news • Valuable, relevant, bene!cial info for your customers

Things to tweet about (20%) • New products, services, features • Special offers, promotions, coupons, sales, contests • Events and awards • Blogs, articles, publications, appearances • Philanthropy (volunteer work, donations) • New partners, employees, large customers • Milestones (customers served, years in business) • Business successes • Polls, requests for feedback and suggestions

When you have 20 tweets, start following people • Follow all the people you found and liked in step 3 • Once others follow you, check out their pro!les and see if
you’d like to follow them. • Check out their followers
and who they’re following and see if you want to follow them, too.
• Add yourself to the WeFollow.com directory so others can !nd you.
• Keep tweeting every day.
