Slide deck from Twitter as a Class Building Tool, my presentation at Building Learning Communities conference in Boston, July 2013.
Though my students and I regularly meet in a classroom, our "space" is really held together by Twitter. We use a hashtag for our class, #tokafe11, as well as secondary hashtags to collect our comments and thoughts during conversations, presentations, guest lecture and so on. Then we use a Google spreadsheet and some scripting to automatically archive the tweets so we can mine our conversations. This spreadsheet runs continuously so we can tweet at any time--in our out of class--and know that what we say is recorded. We also use the spreadsheet data to create a live, interactive visualization of our Twitter activity. Finally, we use Storify to collect tweets, videos and other links around specific topics
