Our Harden Town Tennis Club Courts, hold pride of place in our TwinTowns, and have done so for 85 years or so. Tennis is a game played
by all ages, for ages. Over countless years Courts have been located on the corner of Clarke/Woolrych Streets ( the
Murrumburrah courts ), the Presbyterian Courts on the corner of Binalong St. and the Jugiong Rd. Moses Courts were situated
where the Harden Nursery is now. Other tennis courts exhisted, oneI was told at the Eastern end of Gloaming Rd. Aurville.
But back to our established Harden Tennis Courts….they are theonly ones still in existence. Possibly they began in the 1930’s, when
lighting was first introduced. Then in 1940 additions were first ap-plied to the Clubhouse. In 1992 more additions such as a
kitchenette, dressing rooms and toilets were added. This was tocompliment the new playing surface, and better lightning of 1991-92.
ZZZZZHarden’s ‘A’ Grade Mens Tennis Champions read as follows : 1937R.Pistola, 1938 39 40 41 Bill Oakes, not played, 1946-47 Bill Oakes,
1948 Lloyd Sargent, 1949 Bill Oakes, 1950-51 J.Davis, 1952 BillOakes, 1953 J.Davis, 1954 Bill Oakes, 1955-56-57 J.Davis, 1958
John Killick, 1959-60 J. Davis, 1962-63 R. Miller, !967-68-69-70-71John Killick, 1975 Jim Burfield, 1976 George Killick, 1977 John
Killick, 1978 Unfinished, 1983-84 John Allen, 1985 John Chapman,1986 & 88 Tom Purcell.
ZZZZZWhat do you think of Rugby League’s Paul Gallen Affair ? Zorro believes he has been particularly hard done by. Firstly with the
alleged drug taking. No evidence was given, then the ADASA mobissued what could be considered a “DEAL “…..instead of being
outed from League for 2 years, why don’t you take being outed forjust 3 months, by admitting guilt ? Now any self respecting player
would grab the latter. Then as soon as he did, people label him“drug-cheat.“ This episode to me, was BLACKMAIL…..which couldbe claimed in court. Secondly, Paul Gallen has been fined $50,000
for using defamatory remarks against the League Body. Now forstarters he was not allowed any defence on the matter, even though
it is commonly known, he has suffered from depression for quitesome time. The depression could have been at times so bad that he
may not have been fully responsible for his stupid action. Then togive Gallen a 12 month suspension from playing for Australia if
selected, unless undertaking a management course, is over the topand very excessive punishment. ( and I said this before the JudiciaryBoss Judge Conlon quit.) Gallan has captained NSW Origin Blues, for heavens sake, many times. The penalties should be considerably
reduced, otherwise NRL boss David Smith should go back to Europe, where he came from.
