Fr. Palatucci is forming a Eucharistic Holy Hour prayer group that
will meet each Friday night from 7 – 8 PM. The Holy Hour will
consist of Exposition followed by Adoration and Benediction. The
focus of the Holy Hour will be twofold: vocations to the priesthood
and consecrated life from our parish and 2) an increase of faith
amongst families, especially those from our religious education
(PREP). Through prayer and witness, let's begin to rebuild our
parish and bring back families to the beauty, grandeur, and truth
of our faith. The weekly Holy Hour will begin on the First Friday
in September 2021. Please call the office to sign up or email us at

during this time. Only the pastor reserves the right to grant
permission to recite these prayers publicly in a group
setting and only under his guidance and direction as we
already do each morning after Mass.

Priesthood Sunday USA which was inaugurated
in 2002. This is the time each year to express
appreciation and gratitude to all the priests who
have served God’s people. It is a way to allow
Catholics to recognize good priests who, day in
and day out, do an outstanding job in serving
them in parishes across America. The focus is on
the place of the priesthood as a central reality in
the life of the Church. The shortage of vocations
makes priests less visible and, consequently, less
prominent. Ask your people to remember their
priests and to thank them for what they do to
bring the Lord to the faithful through the
sacraments. Visit the Serra International website
at https://serraus.org/priesthood-sunday/. Also,
visit the archdiocesan
website, www.nypriest.com.
Please continue, through your prayers and generosity, to support
the important work of priestly
formation. This year, the annual collection for Saint Joseph’s
Seminary will be received on September
26. This collection provides critical funding to support the
formation of future priests for the
archdiocese. The cost of housing and educating seminarians is an
investment for tomorrow, and the
participation of the parishes is an invaluable aspect of this
endeavor. This is the seminary’s 125th year.

THE CHURCH DOES NOT COLLECT UNSOLICITED DONATIONS OF ANY
GOODS.
Recently people have been leaving their old holy cards, rosaries,
holy pictures, old clothing, and even
kitchen utensils at the churches. While I understand everyone’s
need to find a place where these can be of
use, 99% of the time they get thrown away.
Here is some information that may help you.
• When a religious organization is looking for a donation, they’ll
usually send a rosary, prayer card, or
holy card pictures along with their solicitation. The cards and
holy pictures can be thrown away. But
if you uneasy in throwing an unblessed rosary away, then may I
suggest you bury it. Do not feel
guilty doing so. There’s no sin when you do. These organizations
should never send blessed items in
the mail to entice donations since once an item is blessed it
should never be sold or used as a
solicitation.
• To prevent further contact from these organizations, it is best
to send a small donation to them with
a letter requesting that your name be removed from their mailing
list. Also request that your name
be removed from any list being sold to other organizations. (Yes,
they can do that legally, and they
usually do.)
• Old clothing and household items such as utensils, pots and pans,
etc., can be donated to either the
Pawling Resource Center or the Center for Compassion in Dover
Plains or The Pawling Methodist
Church Thrift Shop. Please do not leave them here at the church
since we cannot use them, and they
will be discarded.
Again, I understand the sentiment and desire to give these to a
person in need, but the parish has neither
the need for these items nor the staff to redistribute them. It’s
best to donate them to one of the area
organizations that help the poor.

How to have eyes that see and ears that hear
The readings for this Sunday show us God's concern for the
disabled. How closely do we share in his concern for
them?
We're all disabled, one way or another. We can have eyes that see
and still be blind. In fact, the scripture from
James shows us just how blind we can be!
If we see only how a person dresses, for example, without seeing
into their hearts to recognize their gifts and
talents and unique reflection of God, we are being judgmental. If
we are more impressed by a person's wealth or
title or college degrees than we are by his/her spiritual energy or
insights or willingness to serve, we are being
judgmental.
Only God can see all the good that's in a person's heart, and yet
we make assumptions about others as if we're
equal to God. Only God can hear the motives and longings behind a
person's words, and yet we quickly judge
what is being said as if we know exactly what is meant.
Judgmentalism shows us nothing more than how truly blind we
are.
Jesus wants to say to each of us: "Ephphatha! May your eyes and
ears and mind be opened to the truth!" However,
so that we can receive this healing, we have to slow down and stop
reacting to what's visible and audible. We
cannot trust what we see and hear. We need to take time to
prayerfully pause for wisdom and discernment and
new discoveries.
This is one of the reasons why Jesus gave us his Holy Spirit. When
we let God's Spirit interpret everything for us,
instead of reacting, we will act the way the Lord wants us to.
Instead of reacting to partial information, we will act
with faith and compassion.
Questions for Personal Reflection:
In what ways do you show partiality toward some people? What types
of people do you tend to automatically
prefer, based on outward appearances? And whom do you tend to
dislike until you get to know them better? How
will you begin to change this automatic reaction by relying on the
Holy Spirit?
Questions for Community Faith Sharing:
In what ways have you been judged unfairly? How does it feel? Are
you judging those who judged you,
neglecting to look deeper inside of them? Next, take turns in your
group naming a false accusation that caused
suffering, followed by other members describing the goodness that
the accusers were too blind to see. (This last
part is very important -- it is Jesus providing healing!)

Good News Reflection 23er. Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario
Septiembre 5, 2021
No
