The following territorial changes in the counties of California have been made since 1890: Glenn was organized from a part of Colusa in 1892; Kings was 01·ganized from a part of Tulare in J 893; Madera was organized from a. part of Fresno in 1893; and Riverside was organized from parts of San Bernardino and San Diego in 1893.
Of the 57 counties in the state all but 11 have increased in population during the decade, the collD.ties. showing more than 50 per cent of increase being Tuolumne, SS. 5 per cent; Kern, 68. o per cent; and Los Angeles, 6'T .8 per cent. Los Angeles county shows the largest numerical increase (68,844), but more than three-fourths of this increase is due to the increase in the population of the city of J;os Angeles.
The 11 counties showing a decrease in population are Alpine, Butte, Colusa, Del No1·te, Eldorado, Lake, Plumas, Sierra, Stanislaus; Tulare, and Yuba.
Table 4 shows the population of California by minor civil divisions, so far as it was separately returned a.t the censuses of 1890 and 1900.
