• Established as a highly competitive support package to attract top graduate students to NC State.
Purpose
• Students must be supported on a qualifying graduate teaching, research, or extension assistantship or graduate fellowship with a minimum annualized stipend of $8,000.
• Students must meet the minimum registration requirement of 9 or 3 hours. – See Handout – A Regular Person’s Guide
GSSP Requirements

–Tuition for the Fall and Spring for a limited number of semesters

• If a student has a qualifying graduate fellowship, all other appointments are ignoredin determining who pays for the benefits.
Who Pays for the GSSP
• University Sponsored Health Insurance-Pearce & Pearce
– If student’s qualify for the GSSP by 9/15/11, I will waive them from the insurance fee.
– If they are not waived out of 9/15/11, they will not be able to enroll into the GSSP insurance.

• Students who only need to be registered for 3 credits…GSSP will only cover 3 credits.• 699 and 899 – 3 hour maximum

Notice of Sponsorship
– Students requiring Exceptions must either be approved for the exception or pay by the due date. We cannot hold a schedule for a pending exception.
– Students must pay fees if they are not covered by their department. If they are covered they must submit a 2nd
Notice.
• INSURANCE: Students under GSSP have a separate insurance plan and do not need to submit a waiver or pay the fee. It will be automatically credited once GSSP has submitted the authorization.– Students not approved for GSSP by census will be covered under the
UNC plan – not the GSSP plan.
TUITION WAIVERS• Completed and approved Tuition waiver forms must be received by
the UCO no later than 5:00 on August 30. Late forms will not be processed.
• If an employee/student wishes to use the waiver for a different course than listed on the original form, they MUST forward a Corrected and approved form to the Cashier’s Office as soon as possible. They may be held responsible for charges of added courses if the corrected (add/drop) form is not received by August 30.
• You must be a full time employee and contributing to an approved State Retirement plan to be eligible.
• You must be employed as of first day of class and remain employed the entire term.
– Exception: Employees who have been RIF’d may finish the course and will not need to pay.

• Approved enrollment projects are a “contract” with the General Assembly
• Enrollment projections used to set UG admissions targets, allocate some resources

• Enrollment planning process is iterative:– Institutional strategy
– College and program strategies, targets
• Typically a challenging schedule:– Preliminary projections near census
– Revisions completed by mid-September
– Multiple levels of review
Why we want to improve our ability to hit planned targets

– formula complexity
– lack of oversight

– GSR => "unbiased person" to whom the Dean may turn for judgment and counsel on DR exams
– a DR committee that has no NCSU member “outside” the prgm must have a formal GSR
Termination and Administrative Reinstatement
• “terminated” students may be reinstated only– at the request of the DGP
– subject to a plan to reach good standing
• Time window for reinstatement is quite small, esp. over Winter Break
• Please be pro-active in developing the plan

• Some consideration will be given to those who have completed POW but are now terminated, but only if
– this is the first “second” chance, and

*Score reports for paper-based administrations will continue to be reported six weeks after test date.
IMPORTANT: If applicants need score reports before November 2011 to meet admissions deadlines, they must take the current GRE® General Test before August 2011.
What You Can Do to Be Ready • Become familiar with the new score scale and have procedures in
place to review the new scores when score reporting for the revised test begins in November 2011
• Inform your admissions, fellowship and scholarship committees, and faculty and staff about the revised score reporting schedule
• Understand that test scores for all individuals who test between August and October 2011 will be reported starting in November 2011
– Keep in mind you will likely receive a higher-than-normal volume of GRE score reports starting in November because of the special score reporting schedule
