BENEFITS OF TENNISThere is no question in my mind that tennis is the best sport for everyone as they go through life. OurCardio classes are exceptional regarding fitness and exercise, as is just going out and playing on your own.The September issue of Time Magazine was entitled The Exercise Cure. Here are a few excerpts I think arerevealing.
“In addition to the heart, muscles, lungs and bones, scientists are finding that another major beneficiary ofexercise might be the brain. Recent research links exercise to less depression, better memory, and quickerlearning. Studies also suggest that exercise is, as of now, the best way to prevent or delay the onset ofAlzheimers, which is second only to cancer as the disease Americans fear most, according to surveys.”
“Back at McMaster University, Dr. Mark Tarnopolsky (prominently mentioned in this article) and his teamare almost finished doing autopsies on mice from their new study, and even though the scalpel-wieldingscientists are blind to which groups the mice were in, they can tell with certainty which animals wereallowed to exercise and which were sedentary. “You open up the sedentary mice and there’s fat all over theplace,” he says. About half those mice have tumors. “They just look god-awful.”
As for the mice who hit the wheel every day? “We haven’t found a single tumor,” he says. I think if peoplesaw, they’d be pretty motivated to exercise.”
If you are already active in our tennis program here at Turtle Point, we will work hard to keep you in thegame. We are always looking for some fresh faces. Give us a call if you want to step into the great sport oftennis.

TURTLE POINT’S CULINARY TEAM J ANUARY Wine of the Month
January will kick off our newest wineprogram – our: Wine of the Month, which will feature top quality winesthat are offered by the glass. Thisprogram gives you the opportunityto taste wines that are only sold bythe bottle at any otherestablishment.
This balanced red wine blend isinspired by the original Italian fieldblends in California. It has complextones of dark stone fruits, soft peppernotes, hints of tobacco, and plushvelvety tannins that lead to a long, lingering finish.
Try rich dark meats, mushrooms, herbs, herbaceous cheeses like bluecheese, higher tannin foods like rootvegetables & braised greens. Theidea here is that the bright acidity inthe wine will make a rich fatty orhigh tannin dish complete.
Enjoy! This wine is available onlyfor $10 a glass during the month ofJanuary only.

FROM THE MANAGER Mark Grisham • General Manager
We have closed out our fiscal year 2016 with a very strong showing financially – and a specialthank you to all of the staff here that made that possible. I have said it before but it never hurts tosay this again, but Turtle Point has an extremely talented and professional staff in place and all arecommitted to being the best they can in their respected areas.
While I am handing out praise I would be remiss if I didn’t thank Tom Minetree, Robert Pride, andDr. Lee Nichols for serving on the Board of Directors for the past few years – and welcome our newBoard Members Phillip Forsythe, Dr. Mark McILwain, Dr. David Twesme, and Brad Dethero. Afriend of mine told me the other day that when starting a project you can always choose to do the minimum – or you cando the maximum – always choose to do the maximum. During my short time here I feel that the Board of Directors haschosen to do the maximum and that shows throughout the club. A sincere thank you to our members generosity in donatingto the annual staff Christmas fund. Your gifts are greatly appreciated by all of them.
As Christmas season gets in full swing I know that everyone’s schedule is the most hectic of the year with parties for work, school, and friends, but please remember that we are here for you on December 10th. We have a wonderful event plannedfor your kids that will allow you 4 hours to complete your Christmas shopping without prying eyes all around you! ParentsShopping Day is from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm for children ages 3 – 12 and will have crafts, games, and lunch provided and servedby our own “elves” to keep them entertained. And while you are out there in full shopping mode please pick up somethingelse for Toys for Tots and bring to our designated drop off here at Turtle Point.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
