TRENCHLESS CONCEPTS
• Trenchless construction is a subsurface installation that does not require open cut excavation
• Trenchless technology can be used for:
1. New construction (tunneling)2. Rehabilitation (relining)
TRENCHLESS BY ARMTEC

TRENCHLESS CONCEPTS
• Trenchless technology is a growing industry due to the many benefits vs. open-cut excavations
• Aging infrastructure is also putting a demand on replacement and rehabilitation of existing structures
• More than half of Canada’s infrastructure is 40+ yrs. old
• Almost a third of Canada’s municipal water infrastructure is approaching its service life

Vs.
13© 2013 Armtec Infrastructure Inc. • Confidential & Proprietary
Trenchless
• Minimal to no traffic or business disruption
• Reduced impact to local environment
• Excavation & hauling material not required
• Minor to no impact to road surface
• Worker safety improved
• Trenchless is green
TRENCHLESS CONCEPTS
Open Cut
• Reduced or re-routed traffic; disruption to local business
• Impact to local environment (dust, silt, other contamination)
• Potentially high cost of excavation, hauling
• Disturbed road surface affects pavement quality
• Worker safety at greater risk

TRENCHLESS CONCEPTS
Trenchless is Green
TRENCHLESS BY ARMTEC
• Trenchless eliminates the need of running excavation equipment
• Trenchless eliminates the need for moving and hauling excavated material
• Overall reduction in equipment/vehicle emissions

TRENCHLESS CONCEPTS
Tunneling
• Tunneling is a subsurface excavation commonly used for new construction in mining & infrastructure applications
• Tunnels can be constructed using a wide variety of trenchless technologies including:
• Steel liners• Precast liners• Sprayed concrete (shotcrete)• Pipe jacking
TRENCHLESS BY ARMTEC
16© 2013 Armtec Infrastructure Inc. • Confidential & Proprietary
TRENCHLESS CONCEPTS
Tunneling
• Tunneling typically involves a staged excavation & installation process:
1. Excavate tunnel as allowed per soil conditions2. Install rings of liner3. Pump grout between liner and excavated tunnelVoids must be filled to perform as a structural liner4. Repeat steps
• Geotechnical or tunneling engineer is required• Contractor experienced in tunneling is recommended

TRENCHLESS CONCEPTS
Relining
• Relining is the installation of a new surface to an existing structure to provide either a facial or structural restoration
• Aging tunnels or culverts experiencing cracking, spalling, or corrosion may require a new surface to prevent further deterioration
• Deteriorated structures in danger of failing may require a fully structural reline
TRENCHLESS BY ARMTEC
20© 2013 Armtec Infrastructure Inc. • Confidential & Proprietary
TRENCHLESS CONCEPTS
Relining
• Culvert relines typically involve a sliplining process:1. Slide coupled or pre-assembled pipe liner into the
existing pipe2. Utilize bracing or blocking to hold structure into
place3. Pump grout between new and existing structure
Voids must be filled to perform as a structural liner
• Flanged liner plates can be assembled in place*
