Y., undersection IS of the liquor tax law.

To become regular and punctual in themeeting of a duty is to acquire a habitof great service in every walk of life.Indeed, so important is this habit thatevery influence in child-life should bemade use of in order to develop andstrengthen it The home and the schoolshould co-operate in creating and foster-ing a deep sense of the importance ofmoving with unvarying promptness andregularity toward the acquiring of anadequate education.

As an incentive in this direction, theschool prepares each month an "HonorRoll," giving the names of all gradepupils who have been neither absent nortardy during each current school month. The "Honor Roll" is printed in our homepaper for the purpose of encouraging thepupils, and giving parents an officialbasis for praising or censuring the child-

I ren on the point of prompt and regularattendance. If this printed report passeswithout notice and comment in the home, then it fails to accomplish all the goodpossible, because of parental neglect andindifference. The school asks the hometo make the fullest and best passible use jof all published school reports. j 1

I This thievery has been going on forJ three weeks. October 9th, the thieveswere out again. They stole all of theforty turkeys owned by Jesse Hoard andtwenty of the forty turkeys on FredSmith's farm. Apparently the capacityof their wagon had been reached so thatthey were forced to leave half of Mr.Smith's Thanksgiving beauties. Sixtyturkeys in one night made a good haul,so it is no wonder that the farmers are onthe verge of forming a vigilance commit-tee. Their temper is up now, and theyhave plenty of unhealthy hardware readyfor use on chicken thieves.

John M. Andrews, who is confined inthe jail at Warren, Pa., on a charge ofmurder, made an unusual statement inmaking an affidavit for appealing his caseto the supreme court. When Prothono-tary Putnam asked Andrews if he sworeto the contents in the affidavit as beingtrue, he replied, "yes, I swear to it and itis no joke either." The affidavit setsforth that this step is being taken not forthe purpose of delaying the workings of Ithe law, but because the - defendant, con-victed of the murder of Emile Amann. ibelieves an injustice has been don* him,This stops all proceedings on the part of |the Commonwealth until the SupremeCourt hands down a decision.
