What is it?
• It’s an acceleration of photoreaction with the use of a catalys.
• Photocatalytic technology is discovered by Fujishima and Honda in 1972.
• Photocatalytic technology had been used in the removal of organic and inorganic species from aqueous or gas phase.
• In recent year, research focused on the use of semiconductor compound as photocatalytic material
• Semiconductor compound such as TiO2 , ZnO , MgO , WO3 , Fe2O3, and CdS.
• The most popular semiconductor compound in photocatalytic technology is TiO2 because it has been proven non toxic.
• Photocatalytic technology can be use as a disinfectant in water treatment
How Does It Work?
The process of photocatalysis which use a semiconductor oxide such as TiO2 is absorbing a photon with energy that equal to, or greater than the band gap of the semiconductor (ca.3.2 eV for anatase), to create a pairs of electron-hole (e-/h+).
How Does It Work?
On polluted water the catalysts will carry out the substrate from the oxidations and reductions process simultaneously.
Where can We Find this Technology?
• Waste water treatment plant;
• As textile chemical color degradation on textile factory;
• As a treatment for water-soluble pesticides
